Trackdown,

This review is from: Trackdown (Wilderness) (Mass Market Paperback)
Continuing the saga of Nate King this book, as with all of David Thompson's books, is well researched as to historical facts and Indian legend. The legend on which this book is based is gut wrenching and the readers must step back, take a deep breath and regain their equilibrium before continuing on to the conclusion. It seems that Providence has finally turned its back on Nate and all of his physical strength and wilderness knowledge may not save him this time. Fast paced and holds your interest to the last page.

This it the 34th book in the series. I have read all thirty four. I like Trackdown better than the last book but I don't think it is as good as many of the early ones. The early ones may be like the mountain man himself, they may be a thing of the past. Nate King is trying to trackdown his wife and daughter, Winona and Evelyn, who have been kidnapped by the Sa-gah-lee. They are a very primitate tribe. You will never guess why they wanted Winona and Evelyn. UGH!!!! King tracks for several days, overcomes many dangers and finally finds them but then he is captured by the Sa-gah-lee. Will they escape and if they do will they be eaten by the cannibal tribe of Dabi-mussa?? Have to read to find out. Thompson writes so it holds your attention, the books are fairly short and reads quickly. I can see the things happen in my mind as they do on paper. If you like stories about mountain men read this one and the earlier ones he wrote.

What waits in the Mountain!,

This book was a short interesting read.
The story revolves around a mountain man who is married to an Indian woman and has kids. One day while he is out, his family is kidnapped by a little known Indian tribe and taken up into the mountains. The mountain man uses his tracking skills to follow the tribe retreating up and into their mountain village where there lies something sinister. A fairly enjoyable short read. I was glad there was more to the story than just a historically correct book of early America. |
