5.0 out of 5 stars THE best book for learning how to track
Kearney put his years of experience in tracking border-jumpers and lost persons to good use to teach you the fundamentals of tracking humans. The step-by-step learning method is the best I've ever been exposed to. This book is absolutely the best way of learning this ancient skill short of attending a live course. 3.0 out of 5 stars needs updating
This little volume has all the information you need to get started. It has not been updated however, so some of the language might be in question with certain readers. Needs spell-checking as well. But, if you can forgive these concerns, you will learn much by simply following the directions given. Happy tracking!

5.0 out of 5 stars THE best book for learning how to track, October 6, 2005
This review is from: Tracking : A Blueprint for Learning How (Paperback)
Kearney put his years of experience in tracking border-jumpers and lost persons to good use to teach you the fundamentals of tracking humans. The step-by-step learning method is the best I've ever been exposed to. This book is absolutely the best way of learning this ancient skill short of attending a live course. Kearney helps you to build fundamental skills rapidly, and he helps you to avoid the common mistakes that beginners often make.

I own a number of tracking books, but this one is my absolute favorite! Get a copy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The best place to start., July 30, 2009
This review is from: Tracking : A Blueprint for Learning How (Paperback)
I'm still just an intermediate when it comes to tracking, but reading and following the lessons in this book did improve my skill level. In that, I can comfortably state that this book is pretty much one of the best places to start to learn how. It's as close to a "step by step" guide as you can get. The exercises are geared towards getting you tuned into what to look for, and flat out tells you to put down the book and go practice. Mr. Kearney also very wisely doesn't go into long, detailed descriptions, but rather gives you a good idea on what to look for which you then need to apply in your specific environment. He also teaches some very good habits early on which will become a solid foundation as your skill level increases. I highly recommend this book for anyone who wants to start, or become more skilled at, tracking.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tracking the animal named 'Man', July 6, 2008

This review is from: Tracking : A Blueprint for Learning How (Paperback)
This is probably the best book on tracking (they call it mantracking to which the author also writes is probably the worst name ever) people. The author presents the theory, concepts, examples, and training in a cogent, proper way. Nothing substitutes for the real thing of course, especially in this line of work...but for the new comer to tradecraft, this along with "Silent Warfare" are indespensible.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cuts to the chase, June 30, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tracking : A Blueprint for Learning How (Paperback)
Jack Kearney's, "Tracking: A Blueprint for Learning How", 1978, 150 pages. Very plainly written and quick to the point. Border Patrol man-tracking oriented but with clear photographs about tracks and signs applicable to animals.

This ultra-straightforward books covers many bases: awareness, sun angle, sign, slope and ground cover, aging, signcutting, track identification and description, and following non-visible trails, among others. Tracking gear is also discussed.

This book is on my short list. Highly recommended.
