3.0 out of 5 stars Outdated, but maps are useful, December 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tracks and Trails: An Insider's Guide to the Best Cross-Country Skiing in the Northeast (Paperback)
This is a useful book in some respects. I got a slightly used book, with very small penciled-in notes next to some listed venues. Since the book is over 25 years old, it is interesting to compare to the cross country venues available now, which are much more than what is described in this book. For instance, the Bretton Woods area mentions the Mount Washington Hotel, which it describes as being closed in the winter, and nothing could be further than the truth today, as it is a resort that is open year round now, and owned by Omni Hotels and has a full service cross country ski trail system. So, I think it is a good purchase for some basic description of some cross country ski venues, and the maps are good, but all the information is very dated, of course, and you should supplement the information in the book with information garnered from online sources. Some of the venues mentioned are much more extensive than they were 25 years ago, and of course there are venues that have developed since the book was published. I plan to cut out the maps and seal them in plastic and throw the rest away. Still worth it.
