5.0 out of 5 stars This guy is good.
For fans of Gavin DeGraw:

So, I first found out about Tyler back in 2004 but I never bought his CD or anything. Then I forgot about him for a year. And here I am, totally in love with this CD.
First off, I love his voice.
It's different. No, not the different that every other band/artist is, the real different. It kind of reminds me of Elvis...

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Bad
He's got a great voice. Reminiscent of Bryan Adams. The tracks all seem similar to me. It's a good start I guess. Doesn't make me want to run out and buy any more yet. Might have to warm up to it.

It kind of reminds me of Elvis (which would make sense seeing as he was pretty much Tyler's biggest influence, and he played Elvis in "Walk the Line"). But don't get me wrong, he's not a replica of Elvis AT ALL (or anyone else for that matter)

& secondly, I find it nice that he writes, plays AND sings his music. I think that shows a lot of talent.

Breakdown of the CD:
Song Rating My Opinion/My Favorite Line from Song
1.) When it Comes 5/5 First Tyler song I heard.
"I study up my hollow piece of wood to follow a day that doesn't come to the lucky."

2.)The Letter Song 5/5 This song instantly clicked with me. It's catchy and the lyrics are clever.
"My thoughts belong in a book in a store where they're silently read, but spoken no more."

3.)Glad 5/5 Second song of his I heard.
"Everywhere you go, perfection. Follows you the wrong direction."

4.)Rolling Home 5/5 It's a slower song (and I'm not usually a fan of songs that aren't really fast) but I don't know, I just love it. It's kind of got a mellow sound to it and it's relaxing. and from the lyrics, my guess is that the "rolling home" is his tour bus when he's touring. =)
"Cause in the land of the moving suns & moons that fly one by one, provided shades don't shut against them."

5.)Pink & Black 5/5 It's got a great tune, I usually have it stuck in my head.
"Love is never in the same place that you left it."

6.)Our Time 3/5 Ehhh not one of my favorites. It's nice, just not one of my favorites. Kind of has a country sound to it.
"Sorrow hangs like a halo, baby, on my head."

7.)Kiss On 6/5 My FAVORITE song on the whole CD. The music is great and the whole song just flows amazingly.

8.)Slide 3/5 Again, not my favorite.
"So see if I could find my life in the shadows that you hide."

9.)You, My Love 3/5? I don't know. It's ok. It's a ballad type song.
"The end seemed so much greater than either side of the equator."

10.)Insomnia 4/5 This one's actually really slow, yet I find it not bad. Mostly piano.
"So I'm stumbling through this hollow room for peace of mind."

11.)Picture Perfect 5/5 I don't know, I just love the guitar in this one. All it is is guitar and his voice. It's got a great tune.
"She ties a ribbon to and with the stars, she lets me know she's mine."

I recommend this CD AND this artist.
Check out both One Tree Hill soundtracks. He's on both and the songs he sings on both are both amazing. :)

A Kid's Review

I just got this cd as a present and I thought it was pretty cool. There are a couple songs that really didn't click with me but it was a good start. The best songs on this album by far are When it Comes and Letter Song. His voice is husky and really different. I prolly will buy his next one too.

4.0 out of 5 stars Decent Debut from a "Not-related-to-Paris" Hilton, February 14, 2005

To be completely honest right off the bat, I immediately dismissed TH as another John Mayer Knockoff to begin with. The hair, the eyes, the obvious marketing as a teen heartthob. And yet, there was something in those deep blue eyes that piqued my interest. So, after looking at the album a number of times at Target I downloaded two songs: Glad & When It Comes.

It was lucky I chose those two, because they are the best tracks on the album. The perfect mix of melody, lyrics, and rythym. I eventually caved to my overriding sense of guilt for downloading stuff that I would be willing to pay for and ordered the album "The Tracks Of".

The album is a remarkably strong debut for a new artist. No slick overproduction, no obvious filler songs, it is obvious that Hilton put a decent amount of effort and time into each song that made the cut. It is unusually genre-bending, Hilton effortlessly switches from laid back country (Rollin' Home), the blues (You, My Love), to old style Elvis (Glad). It is no coincidence that he was chosen to play Elvis in the upcoming Johnny Cash biopic, he is both a dead ringer in both looks and style.

Not only does he draw from various genres, he fuses them to create a unique sound of his own: a sweet blend of country melodies, bluesy lyrics, and that driving rock rythym. The combination creates what can only be described as good music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better in my bathroom concert!, January 29, 2006
This review is from: The Tracks of (Audio CD)
I met Tyler a few years ago just as he was getting signed to maverick records. He played a couple hours for a friend and I in a bathroom at a music festival ( the womans bathroom in the middle of the night). Iam lucky to have it on video. I loved his total unique acoustic style at that time much better than the music on his CD ( a little too pop for me)... but it is still a good CD. This kid is gonna make it big, his debut in the movies as elvis in Walk the Line was awesome for a first. Way to go Tyler!

I am not Tyler Hilton's brother, not a relative of any kind, not a friend, don't know him, not a flack, just a listener. I first heard Tyler on One Tree Hill. I kept meaning to buy his CD but I kept forgetting his name. Stupid me. This CD is really terrific. John Major move over and weep. This has melody, beat, lyrics you can actually understand and relate to, I just love it. I can't stop playing it. I just hope he gets a chance to reccord another professional album.

4.0 out of 5 stars a very promising new artist!, July 16, 2005
This review is from: The Tracks of (Audio CD)
Usually, I'm more interested in artists that are still relatively unknown. I saw Tyler Hilton on an episode of One Tree Hill before I had his cd and heard his music on the show. When I first got the cd I was a bit concerned that I wouldn't enjoy it and that maybe it would just be too "pop" for me. Although Tyler's music does have a bit of a pop sound on some of the songs, his lyrics are so honest and I am in love with his raspy, charismatic voice. The Tracks Of is a fun cd that pairs upbeat, fun songs, with meaningful, beautiful slow songs. I definitely reccomend this cd!
