5.0 out of 5 stars My son loves Tracksters
I have a 6 year old son. He Loves racing online and with the actual cars. I did have a small problem downloading, but someone from tracksters got right back to me. I don't know if they have solved the problems the other reviews talked about; or what but my son is on the site all the time to race and we have not had any other problems. My eight-year-old son was thrilled to get a Trackster for Easter. I wasn't thrilled that it was [...] for an oversized HotWheel, but for us it was all about getting a code so he could play the online game. Only after we registered did Tracksters mention (in the registration confirmation email) that the game is still in beta.

It was very difficult just downloading the Tracksters software. After trying everything we could to download using the links on the Tracksters site, we finally used a separate FTP client to get the software. After installing it, we still couldnt' log in; we kept getting a message to the effect that "Service Unavailable. Try Again Later." About 12 hours after first opening the package, we were finally able to get online.

As I said, the post-registration email states that the game is still in beta testing. It shows. More than once, in just a short time playing, my son's multiplayer race ended abruptly because of some sort of error. Our computer is well within the system requirements, but there was a noticeable lag in the graphics. Overall, I would say that the graphics are pretty good, if this was 10 years ago.

Tracksters has over-promised and under-delivered. The toy car is nice, but the game is a disaster. The software is currently on "version 1.6," which is pretty misleading: shouldn't it be "0.6," so we know--maybe even *before* buying--that Tracksters expects us to do their software testing for them? And even when the game is stable, it doesn't promise to be on par even with driving/racing games that are 5+ years old.

Avoid Tracksters.

Got this as a gift for my son for Easter. The software would not install on any of my Vista machines. It installed on my XP laptop, but the laptop really couldn't handle the graphics. I finally pulled out an old XP desktop and it ran great, and it was a lot of fun. It was very difficult finding out how to enter codes from cards that we also got, but eventually figured it out and my boys now love it. Now that I figured it out, I'll probably buy them more Tracksters, but it sure was a pain to get it all up and running. I spent probably 5 hours on this which is pretty unacceptable, but it really is a cool concept. I hope they can iron out their bugs (and get the costs down a bit).

UPDATE:
My boys are still in love with Tracksters. They ask for a new one all the time. A recent update to the software almost derailed our trackster experience. We couldn't log in because we needed to update the software. We clicked the "update" button, but it gave us a nasty error. I tried reaching someone from tech support, but couldn't that evening, so I researched the problem on the Web. Lots of people couldn't update the software. Finally, I snooped around and found the ftp site for their firmware updates and manually downloaded it and all is well now. Their support team did call us within 48 hours. Tracksters reminds me of the Steve Martin bit, "Cruel Shoes." The toys are torturesome to get working, but sure are a blast for the kids when they work.

UPDATE UPDATE:
The ability to update the software from within the application is still not working. However, we just go to the web site and redownload the full app each time we have to update and it works fine that way.

The "Easter Bunny" brought my son a trackster. Just like the other reviewers we can not seem to get the game to download. We have contacted the company but are not getting any response. It is a great idea too bad it does not work. THE EASTER BUNNY WANTS HIS MONEY BACK!!!!

We bought 5 of these TRACKSTER cars for our kids and their friends in November 2011 for Christmas so they could race online. Cool looking cars but the website is no longer working (as I have found out now that I have been searching about the Trackster Website - some of the postings about this same problem are from 10 monthes ago!). This means you can't race them, design their exterior, or do anything with them online! So basically they are like $5 Matchcars but I paid $18 for each! Feel like I've been robbed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Game, AS OF JANUARY 2010, May 30, 2010

I bought a Tracksters in April of 2010 and loaded the software with no problems on my Vista system with cable internet. After that is when I read the horrible reviews about the product, never would have bought if I read those reviews first, Glad I Didn't. Please note that all the negative reviews are dated 2009. It seems they did not get the software right until December of 2009, I hope it's not too late because it really is a great idea that is loads of fun to play for all ages. It is also as safe of an online game experience as you will find for the kids, without being childish. The Trackster people simply released their product way way way too soon, if they did it right the first time this would have been the hottest game on the net. Just go to the Trackster web site and read their own news reports, you will see how the complany struggled till they got it right. One thing I don't like about the current software, when you load it the default graphic setting is low rez, change it to high rez after you get it running and it will look much better. If you are running Windows, give this game a chance, you and the kids will have a ball! I have no idea if it will run on a Mac.

1.0 out of 5 stars What a Good Idea....Too Bad It's Wasted On This Product, September 14, 2009

My son got a Trackster for his Birthday and was SO excited to go online to race his car. We opened the box, took out the card with the secret code inside...Logged onto the computer, entered the code and.....We got an error message saying that the code we have was invalid. We tried again. Same thing. We tried different variations. All caps, lower caps, left to right, right to left. We got the same message. I immediately left an email for someone at Technical Support to write me back (24 hours and I'm still waiting for my reply). I also found a phone number on the website. I called and was immediately given a voice mail message for me to leave my name, number and a brief description of the problem with the promise that I'd get a phone call back. Hours later, still nothing. I called again, this time demanding to speak to a human being. They put me through to Technical Support. The girl I spoke with was very nice, but even she was baffled about the code. She said that she would speak to her manager and call me back shortly. Fast forward 4 hours later and I'm still waiting for that phone call. I finally got fed up and called back. They put me through to a different person at Technical Support who told me that the girl I spoke with hours ago went home sick, but that she was still working on it and if I could just wait until tomorrow, she'd call me back then. Nope. Wasn't having it. I asked that someone help me immediately. That I waited long enough and that this car cost [...] for a little Matchbox-like car. All in the hopes that my kid can have a little fun racing and designing a virtual car. I think this girl realized I was at the end of my rope, so she gave me a new code for the same exact make and model of the car. But again, it was another bad code. I called back....AGAIN.....asking for help. To their credit, they cave me the code for a completely different car, while still promising to fix the code to the original car that I got....Plus they put some virtual dollars in my son's account so that he could "buy" stuff for his car. Now I find out that the game isn't online, but downloaded. A bit of a disappointment, but I'm willing to keep an open mind. I'm downloading as we speak.

We have a Mac. The product description says nothing about system requirements. Only on the package does it say "PC windows." My son saved for this for two months, then after ordering it he tracked the daily progress of the shipment. He literally cried himself to sleep last night.

Tracksters crashed my computer totally. I had to reboot from the operating discs. If you want to waste your time and you need a good excuse to buy a new computer, then buy Tracksters because it will cause your computer to crash, like mine did. It was a total nightmare that I'm still dealing with. I'm on another computer from home to post this.

DON'T BUY TRACKSTERS FOR ANY REASON! It's a piece of garbage.

This is the best of both worlds, for the real world you have a fantastically detailed 1/64 scale Dodge Viper that is very suitable to adult collecting. For the virtual world you enter the code found in the package and take your new model onto the race track. Your virtual car is fully up-gradable and customizable with items which can be purchased with "money" you earn for winning races etc. Overall this is great for any auto enthusiast who also enjoys racing in the virtual world.
