This key holder is a very creative idea, and it works pretty well on some cars. However, it is much thicker than it really needs to be, and so it blocks the license plate light on some models. That is, of course, illegal - if you block the license plate light, you may be stopped and given a ticket.

Good idea, but it needs some help to be effective. The design uses a combination of plastic friction binding and the spring-loaded license plate to hold the "key-compartment door" closed to "secure" the spare key. However, if you install the device on a hatch-back door, and you must slam the hatch closed, the key compartment may "flop open", dislodging the key from inside. I overcame this issue by using two pieces of velcro- one to the head of the key and the other to the inside of the key box. In this way, the key does not come loose when slamming the hatch back closed and allows the owner to lift the license plate and re-close the key compartment without having to search beneath the vehicle for the dropped key. Sometimes a bit annoying, but still effective. Overall, this is a good idea that could be improved upon if the designers had used an additional safeguard to positively "latch" the key compartment closed to avoid such an accident. The second issue I have is that if your license plate is secured by sheet metal screws at the bottom rather than at the top of the license plate, the installation will not work well. Still, it is a good little product for hiding a spare key on the outside of your vehicle "just in case".

bad idea,

Received one of these as gift when I bought a new car. Decided not to use it. In large cities, especially... thieves mess with license plates in attempt to steal registration stickers, etc. With this device, they get the whole car.

Limited Use,

I have a wagon with the release above the license plate. The plate cuts into your fingers in this situation. Also, you must have a narrow key for it to fit in the space provided. My key does not fit. I have removed it from the car and trying to give it away. Do not buy if you have a hatchback or a key much wider than a house key.

This is a great product. Once it is in place, nobody but you know that it is there. If you have to use it ONE time, it has paid for itself many times over!!

Don't ever be locked out again! I was able to install this myself. Not only is it better in an emergency than fumbling underneath the car for a magnetic box (that can fall off) but when my keys are inside the house and I need in the car for something, I just pop up the license plate and there it is.

I use this because I have locked my keys in my truck......sooooo many times. Its a great concept, I just hope nobody watches and pays attention to where this is, for obvious reason.

Great idea except if you close your truck hard the key flap will open and tag will not sit properly. If gone un-noticed, your key may fall out when driving.

Easy to install, and no one know it's there! I got it before the scheduled delivery date. No looking for it to show up!
