Great price-Nice lanterns,

I've been stocking up on emergency supplies in case we go through a power outage. A few years ago, our area lost power for over a week because of the hurricanes.
These lanterns are made of plastic, which is what makes them affordable- they are definetly NOT made to hold up to tough conditions, like camping trips, etc.. BUT, they are perfect for emergencies-ie, power outages. They require 4 AA batteries, and light up pretty good. I'm VERY pleased with this purchase.

I couldn't find a better value, if I kept looking. They seem to average about 4-5 dolars a piece, including shipping. That is about the same price as the LED "whirly gigs" kids play with, but these offer good light during an emergency, as well as being someone entertaining for nighttime imaginary play.
Like other reviews, fragile, not for kid play if you want them to last for along time, but you get three at a time. I think they are better than equivalently priced flash lights. For the price, you could buy two three packs easy, and light your whole house during an emergency and keep your kids calm and entertained. I folded kleenex and placed it in the battery compartment to keep the batteries in place. No safety lock, so I would say supervised play for any child under 4. Light section unscrews relatively easy should you need to replace the battery and it looks like they use a standard flashlight battery. Lastly, I really like them for the AA batteries that I buy in bulk.

The lanterns were handy and provided good light. I bought these for my two children--4 and 7--the plastic is pretty cheap and they are all cracked now. Also, the handles on two of the 3 lanterns were broken off by someone pulling too hard on them. I suppose you get what you pay for; but treat these gently because they will crack or break.

Before we took them out of the box two of the threee knobs had broken off. We used the other one for a weekend when the power was out for 36 hours and then the next time we were going to use it when the power was out. The other knob broke off. Really not a good product at all.

Got the lanterns for my friend's new home. She loves them. They are light and portable and very safe. She keeps one in each of the kids rooms and one in her room. Easy to carry around and do generate lots of bright lighting.

Terrific Until They Very Soon Stopped Working,

We had a two-day blackout. We used three of these lanterns intermittently during the first night of blackout, and we were very pleased with them. HOWEVER, one by one, they all stopped working the next day. I estimate that each lantern received 8-10 hours of usage before they stopped working. (It was NOT a battery problem.) None of the swtches physically broke, as some customers have described. We took one apart to see if there was a switch connection problem as one user said, but the switch was not the same as he described. We do not know what the problem is, so to us the lanterns are now just junk

Just As expected,

I was looking for something in the camping theme that my boys could use in their room and the other laterns that used batteries were just too expensive to use for play. I admit I was weary about the product because they were so inexpensive but when I received them they were just what I wanted. Excellent packaging, arrived in a no time. Now they have something they can read to at night or just play like they are camping.

Sort of okay,

Of the three lamps, one's nob broke off while I was taking it out of the box. The other two work fine as emergency lamps, which is why I bought them. Some super glue might save the third lamp - If not it's going to be spar parts...

I got these emergency lanters for myself for when the area has power outages. They have come in very handy and are cute enough to display with any theme. I like them so much I'm thinking of giving a set to friends and family as extra little Holiday presents. The batteries for the lanters are very affordable and easy to install.

I'm updating my original review because I just spent the last 2 1/2 days without electricity due to a huge and nasty summer storm. I happily and safely used my little lights throughout this time. I don't like using candles because I have family members who aren't the most careful and I would worry about fires starting with candles lit around the house all night. And you aren't supposed to use candles when you sleep anyway. So I just love these great little lights. I'd recommend them to everyone. Now, please realize, they aren't made for rough and tumble, they are a little delicate, made of light plastic and not the strongest manufacture. But they work very well if placed around the house or carried around to light your way. They give plenty of light using 4 AA batteries. For around $5 each they do great. I think they are a pretty good deal. If one breaks, they are inexpensive enough to replace easily. Below is my original review.
We don't have power outages very often but I got them for this purpose. I live in a townhouse with 3 floors. I keep one on each floor. I am actually purchasing 3 more so that we have 2 on each floor. We had some power loss this last winter during a huge snow storm. The lights worked great during that time. They light up very well and its easy to read by them especially if the electricity is out for a long time. Also since they run on batteries its easy to keep them going. They are definitely NOT for rough going. I wouldn't use them on a camping trip but I would keep one in my car just in case I need a light. Not a bad deal for the price. |
