Trading Faces,
By Kelly "Reviewer for The Sinfully Sensuous" (Littleton, Colorado) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE) (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Trading Faces (Kindle Edition)
Elyse Cabot never thought she would have to attend her ex-husbands funeral when they were both still young. She had so many plans for them, but they took second place to his ambition in his accounting firm. He had changed into an elitist arrogant man she didn't recognize. Gone were the dreams of a comfortable life with children and all the love they could stand. That was why they had been divorced for three years. Elyse knew if Matthew were dead that she would feel it deep down, and she didn't. When she looked at his body in the casket, she was looking for a scar he had on his chin, but it wasn't there. She was shocked when she realized the man being buried wasn't him. She fainted when Matthew posing as his identical twin, winked at her.
Jack Walling had met Elyse thirteen years ago at a holiday party, and he thought she looked better than she did back then if it was possible. He hated seeing her under the circumstance of a funeral. When he saw her faint, he tried to get to her before she hit the ground, but he didn't make it in time. He helped her home thinking the whole way that something was very off with her. You could have knocked Jack over with a feather when Elyse showed up at his office to hire him. As a private investigator, she asked him to find her ex-husband Matthew Cabot. She explained her beliefs, and as crazy as is sounded, he believed her. When Elyse was attacked, and called Jack for help, he was convinced that not everything was as it appeared. As they spent more and more time together, they both felt the undeniable attraction between them. Jack fought it as long as he could because he believed getting involved with a client was never a good idea, but in the end, they both gave into lust. Even though there was still a threat to Elyse, they settled into a happy routine while trying to figure out what was going on. When attempts against her were stepped up, Jack knew he had to figure out the puzzle before he lost the woman he was beginning to love. A suspenseful story that draws you in from the beginning, keeps you on your toes. Elyse had suffered unimaginable pain and suffering at the hands of Matthew. She had no idea the lengths he would go to protecting himself. He is truly an abhorrent human being, and deserved everything that he got. Jack and Elyse are truly themselves with each other, and we get to follow along on their journey together. Passionate sex and a good story are always a good combination.

Intriguing read,
This review is from: Trading Faces (Kindle Edition)
With the help of PI Jack Walling, Elyse Cabot must trek through quiet, suburban Fort Worth to uncover the truth behind her ex-husband's "murder". And where over four million dollars worth of loose gems fit into the death.
An intriging tale that will keep you turning the page.

Suspenseful read it ain't!,
By Bookbunny (Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trading Faces (Paperback)
The story starts off with Elyse attending the funeral of her ex-husband, Matthew, only to discover at the funeral that it was not Matthew that was dead, but his twin brother, Jonathan. Then she discovers a whole stash of diamonds in their joint safety deposit box. So Elyse hires a PI, Jack Walling, to investigate. He's also an old time friend of the family and had a crush on Elyse since then. At first, Jack thought she was crazy since she insisted that Matthew was alive but when he dug more deeply into it, he started to believe her. Someone was out to get Elyse and it was his duty to protect her.
While the premise of the story was good and I have high expectations of it being a good read since romantic suspense is one of my favorite genres, I was sorely disappointed. From the beginning, readers can straightaway guess who the attacker is. So no suspense there but that's ok because a lot of books starts out that way and still be suspenseful. Unfortunately, not so in this case. Other than a few attacks on Elyse here and there (and boring ones at that), the story then just starts to meander through her daily life and family. As for Jack, being an ex-marine, if you're expecting him to be all alpha and macho, forget it. Then towards the end, Elyse puts herself in a TSTL (Too Stupid To Live) situation. That always irritates me. I guess I must have too high of an expectation for this book judging from the glowing reviews from other readers. Anyway, just wanted to state that it was a disappointing read for me. I give it 3 stars just to give credit to the author for writing as it's not easy being a writer, not for the story itself. That I would give it a 2. |
