A Must for Southwest Indian Products Shoppers,
By rug guy "two grey hairs" (No. Colo.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Trading Post Guidebook: Where to Find the Trading Posts, Galleries, Auctions, Artists, and Museums of the Four Corners Region (Paperback)
Just returned from Navajo reservation shopping trip. This book was invaluable in finding the products I desired and saved time in eliminating "souvenir" type experiences.
I met some of the same great and helpful people characterized in the book. Not real user friendly in terms of geography. You have to shuffle through pages to find out where you are on the road or highway relative to the locations described. Needs to be updated : example: Chambers trading post not at all as described - must have changed hands some time ago. Dirty and "junky".

While this book is quite outdated, it's still invaluable in many ways. The history alone is worth it. Most of the TP's are still in the same location, and most still have good reputations. It definitely separates the wheat from the chaff. Don't just go in and look around - talk to folks. Ask if they have a back room. That's sometimes where the good stuff is (like the expensive rugs).

A complete, informative and beautifully illustrated book.,

Authors Eddington and Makov give wonderful information on a myriad of places in the Four Corners Region where you can purchase Native American arts and crafts. Beautifully illustrated with hand-tinted photographs, the guidebook not only lists galleries and museums, but also old, authentic trading posts, where maybe the only thing you'll acquire will be a sense of nostalgia for the past. If you're interested in Native American art and craftwork of the Southwest, buy this book and keep it in your car. It will come in very handy.
