3.0 out of 5 stars Needs some work September 12, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I read "Creating a Perfect Lifestyle", which I thought was jam-packed with useful, highly motivating, and great information, without a doubt. This one, however, definitly has quite a few flaws, and is a pretty short book. This is a very technical topic, but lacks good examples in quite a few spots. I can't cover them all in this review, but here's some off the top of my head.

Why are candlesticks more accurate than daily line charts? There's no explanation, and I can't begin to understand why candlesticks are "much more accurate" than daily line charts. Aren't they based off the same high, low, open, and close price data?

Can you give a visual example of what a retracement is or the high, low and close "converging"? Some of the topics just lack examples and visual charts, that make it difficult to follow, and I'm not exactly a beginning trader. I've studied for years and read a lot of books. Some of the terminology is new to me and poorly described with no examples.

There is a part about Oli opening his own investment fund and claiming that he doesn't have to earn as high a rate of return for the public (only about 12 percent) vs. 50 to 60 percent plus that he makes on his own, because the public is happy with that type of smaller return w/ less volatility. I suppose that makes sense, but isn't a bigger reason to return a lower rate of return the fact that when you start trading a larger sum of money (ex. in a fund for the public), it's much more difficult to trade larger quantities of money, get good, fast fills, and make higher returns in general? When you trade larger amounts you actually start moving the market, so to speak.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent summary of top trading rules March 2, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I recommend this book for everyone who is serious about learning to trade the markets, especially beginners. The author evidently read lots of trading books and is a successful trader, and this book is an excellent summary of top, time tested, true and real trading rules.

There is not much innovation here, but known and true rules such as: manage your risk, always place a stop loss in the market, at the logical level, and adjust the position size (e.g. number of contracts or lots or stocks) so that the potential loss is totally acceptable to you, record your trades and analyze them to learn, etc.

The author recommends and uses the trend following systems which, again, as time-tested and proven, are profitable! The only thing is, they may be difficult to trade, due to our psychology. And the author also covers that topic and talk how to handle a series of losses.

There is no specific mechanical trading system described here, such as "buy when this indicator shows this, etc." but this is not the point. The book says, and I agree, and this is consistent with what many other books say, incl. "market wizards" series, that to be consistently profitable, you must find your own trading system, that has an edge in the market (uses some repeatable pattern that, if traded consistently, skews the probability to your side) and that suits your personality.

The author cannot give you this system, even if he did, you would unlikely be profitable. How to find your own? Different story, but read books, such as this one, research the internet for different trading systems, then backtest them, then trade on demo, then live, starting small.

Well, the $5 price is what you are going to make or lose on couple pips going your way or against you. This book will set you up for fewer trades that will go against. Are you reluctant of the price or time? - Don't be, because it well worth it both...
