The fan is not as shiny or retro/cute as I hoped, but it is clearly very well made, much more so than I expected and it cools so well I decided to keep it. This is the best fan I ever had, can't be beat for cooling and not really unstylish, just wish it was a bit more vintage chic..

I just received my desktop fan 3 days earlier than expected. It reminds me of the fans my parents used when I was a kid in the 50s and 60s - only shinier. This is a Pelonis fan and must be assembled.

I found only one star washer on the head to mount the rear fan guard. You'd think if it needed a star washer on one mounting screw, it would have a star washer for all 4 mounting screws. The assembly diagram shows no star washers though. There is another screw and nut that is supposed to hold the fan guard halves in alignment, but I couldn't find the nut anywhere in the package. Perhaps the screw and nut should have been threaded into one of the fan guard halves, just as the mounting screws were threaded into the motor housing.

Assembly was easier than unpacking the unit - actually, it was the fan guard halves that were stacked together and wrapped in plastic that gave me the most trouble. But taking care not to bend them, I got them apart. I was pleased to see that preventative measures were made in packing to protect the chrome. Assembly took only a few minutes.

After reading the reviews, I knew there was going to be some noise, maybe even something like a B-17 airplane engine. I wish people wouldn't exaggerate so much. If your fan makes that much noise, send it back for a replacement. This fan does make noise, but it is by no means unacceptable for the kind of fan it is - a retro styled, all metal fan. I didn't have to turn my TV up or shout at my visitors. But yes, it makes a wind noise that is noticeable.

My fan must sit on a high shelf about 8 or 9' from my desk chair. Because of the height, it must point downward for me to feel the cool airflow.

I decided to do my office over with a retro look to overcome the blues from being reorganized. Try to bring a nice & comfy feel to my office. Since the building's A/C is uneven at best, I decided to get this retro fan. It works great! And it looks great. Some have complained about the noise, but mine is quiet. Just the gentle "whoosh" of air. I have no doubt that the others who had concerns are not wrong, per se, but received defective units. I would recommend this to others.

Ace Trading Table Retro Fan 12" [actually received a Pelonis 12" retro table fan]. This fan is well-made and good-looking, Deco style. It also moves air well. It's pretty easy to put together but you must be able to handle small screws. The problem is that it's LOUD. Loud as a B-17 engine, even on low. It has metal blades that are angled, not curved, which explains the drone. You could put it in another room so the noise doesn't bother you, but then you won't feel the air. A pity because we liked it otherwise. Will have to return this to seller and buy a quieter, less-stylish fan (probably the mid-sized Vornado at around $60).

I was hesitant when ordering this fan as I was unsure how "loud" it would be. I have had it for about two weeks now and have to say I am impressed with the product and the price. Most other chrome fans are about $25 more and this one is definitely a good buy and nice. It does make noise as it works but not at all anything loud or louder than other fans. We had a plastic one that I couldn't stand that worked great but was loud and looked yucky, this one puts out almost the same amount of breeze and is much quieter than the other one. I use it for a room that is 20 x 10 and on the the lowest setting its windy enough for me to put my orchids out of its way so they dont get hurt. Also, it was super easy to put together and I like how the two grates attach old school style, with these clips that are chrome and slide over to clamp together. Looks like an older fan and I think it was a great buy:)

Not much to say except that it was all that it said it was in the product description. I have always bought the big plastic fans and they did their job in the day but wanted a little more style. This unit is all metal that I see and looks nice and does not take up a whole lot of space. Puts out sufficient air for what we use it for which is blowing hot woodstove air out of living room into other rooms. Would recommend but again I just got it and set it up.
