5.0 out of 5 stars Make exquisite looking quilts with strips!
This is an excellent book for a new or experienced quilter who wants to make a fantastic, complicated looking quilt using the secret of strips. My Blooming 9 Patch is my most exquisite project to date! This book would make a lovely gift for anyone who loves making quilts

3.0 out of 5 stars Creative quilting, July 31, 2001

I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the patterns in this book. I love the Bloomin' Ninepatch. It is my favorite pattern in the book. The possibilities for today's quilter to experiment with fabric on this quilt are incredible. The directions are clear and precise.

My only problem with this book, and the reason I gave it three stars, is due to the fact that the writers/quilters cut the fabric requirements soooo close that a simple miswhack could result in not having enough fabric to finish your quilt. I have been qulting for 20 years and I had to piece a 4 1/2 inch square, I ran so close. The frugal quilter should have not problems, but the novice or creative quilter should buy a little more of each fabric that is called for just to be sure to have enough,, especially if you are using fabric that does not measure full 45 inch width.

The quilts are beautiful and definitely worth making. They inspired me to think beyond colors I normally use. The book is definitely one I will keep and use again and again.

5.0 out of 5 stars I recommend this book to every quilter I know, May 22, 2001

I've had this book for several years and have made 3 quilts from it (two different Trips Around the World and a Boston Common). The directions are so complete and easy to follow. Everyone who sees these quilts can't believe I made them without taking a class. I am planning to do a Blooming 9 Patch next.

Blooming 9 patch color selection has always scared me. But reading about it in Traditions with a Twist gives me the confidence to do it.

My favorite quilting book... and I have a LOT of them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thanks to these two ladies, I'm now a quiltaholic., September 8, 1999

My first full sized quilt was fashioned after "Carribean Cove". I've since made the same pattern using greens and I'm amazed at how different the two quilts look. I have moved on to Diamondback Scrap and my next project is going to be a baby Sunshine and Shadow. The directions are simple to follow-especially for beginners like myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Book, December 13, 2000

I love this book. The directions are very clear. I've made one of the quilts in this book. The quilt I made (Sunshine & Shadows) looks like it took me forever to make but it only took me three days to cut and piece the entire queen sized quilt. I've recommend this book to anyone that's interested in making an irish chain type of quilt. Blanche Young you're great!

I am a novice quilter with minimal skills and a love of color. This book allows me to get the type of result I can see in my mind but don't really have the skill to put together on my own. I've made the Bloomin' Nine Patch, and seen three others, and all are striking. I'm now doing the Double Irish Chain, and have plans for two others from this book. I recommend it to other novices, as it is clear and specific, and the quilts are very impressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars First Quilt- A WINNER!, June 20, 1999
This review is from: Tradition with a Twist: Variations on Your Favorite Quilts (Paperback)
My best friend just made her first quilt with this book. It was so impressive, that not only was I inspired to start quilting, but also her local quilt shop put it on display. I have never quilted before, but this book, with its easy instructions, assists you in becoming creative and gives you the confidence to make your own prizewinner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful watercolor effects quickly, November 16, 1998

I just love this book! Teaches strip quilting as a way to create many traditional quilting patterns such as Irish Chain & Boston Commons or "watercolory" quilts. I made a Blooming Nine Patch using Japanese fabrics that's only my second quilt but looks beautiful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful patterns, August 31, 2005

The book cover doesn't represent the quilts inside. It's too bad a person can't look inside this book or else it would sell more copies. I'm not fond of making half-square triangles but still want to make beautiful quilts. This book has all squares with dramatic effects. Absolutely beautiful designs.

This book makes the quilts that look hard to make very easy. It has step by step instructions on several different quilts. Just rotary cut, sew strips together, cut again and sew. Five strips make a quilt. What could be easier than this?
