More About the Author

Monique Dillard lives in Illinois and was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba (Canada). Her love of quilting was nurtured by relatives in Canada who taught her the art of handwork and sewing. She parlayed her degree in mathematics into a genuine understanding of the need for an accurate 1/4" seam, squared blocks and precise cutting. She was a regular teacher at her local quilt shop for 15 years until her budding quilt design business - Open Gate - steered her career toward a national audience. These days, you can find Monique teaching across the United States at quilt guilds and weekend retreats. Monique's classes always fill up fast with fans from previous classes and students eager to learn from this talented designer.

Another wonderful book by Monique Dilliard. This book provides detailed instructions for 11 beautiful quilts. You are also given multiple size options for each pattern. The patterns are traditional but jazzed up with Monique's sense of style. This book is suitable for a beginner or anyone who loves making traditional quilts but is looking for a little change of pace. These patterns will look great using any style of fabric. You can't beat the price for the quality of the colored illustrations and finished quilts and for the quantity of projects. A perfect companion to Monique's first book, Fat Quarter Winners, and a wonderful addition to any quilter's library. I have made Pyramid and love it, Golf is next on my list.

This is the second book of Monique's fat quarter books and it is as good as the first with 11 projects using fat quarters. In this book she used yard goods for the background fabric and fat quarters for the rest of the quilt fabric. The projects in this book have a very scrappy look, very easy piecing techniques and timeless in their look. So if you are tempted to stock up on fat quarters, stop by and get this book to help you put them together, with clear charts of fabrics needs along with different quilt size details in the same simple chart. In the basic instructions, there is a connecting the binding technique, that I have used for years, which is illustrated and wrote in very good detail. Try this technique! I really think this book is a good one for those who like lots of fabric in one quilt and who love to buy all the fat quarters they can find, easy for beginners. Add this one to your bookshelf.

I own Monique's first book, so I was really looking forward to this one as well. There are patterns for 11 quilts, most of which are a very generous lap size, but nearly every quilt has necessary information for three alternate sizes. I especially like that six of the quilts use only 12 FQs (plus background & borders), and the others range from 14-20 FQs. There's a lot of variety and it is easy to visualize different design and coloring options to make your quilt unique!

The title of the book has changed from that shown in the picture as of this date(originally More Fat Quarter Winners, following on her successful Fat Quarter Winners theme) to Traditional Fat Quarter Quilts. I believe the only reason for the title change may be that her first book used fat quarters for scrappy backgrounds and this book uses a common background for all. Whatever it's called, it's another success for Monique.

I got this on my kindle fire and I like the idea that I can look at patterns and get ideas when I am away from my books at home. Also it is cheaper to come up with great ideas with a fat quarter. You can buy a fat quarter and not feel guilty. Then you have a chance to use them.

It is nice to be able to grab a book with all fat quarter patterns, especially when your favorite fat quarter bundle goes on sale and you need to figure out what to do with it! These patterns are all very nice. It's a good book for intermediate quilters.
