5.0 out of 5 stars A mini-vacation to Wales
Bobby Freemans's "Traditional Food from Wales" is absolutely one of the most enjoyable cookbooks I have ever had my hands on. The recipies are so skillfully interwoven with the lore and stories of past and present Wales, that they serve only to enhance the readers' experience, as opposed to interrupting it. In this book you will find recipies ranging from early...

3.0 out of 5 stars Lots of history and recipes (which need more detail for me)
I've found it to be a very interesting book to read for the history as well as the recipes. I would, however, like greater detail in those recipes because while they are probably good enough for a good cook an amateur like me would need a bit more detail. You may also find that you'll need an English/American dictionary (Amazon has one or more)because this book was...

In this book you will find recipies ranging from early medieval times through to turn of the century and modern Wales. I consider this book a true cornucopia for anyone interested in Wales, not only it's foods, but its people, its past..

You may also find that you'll need an English/American dictionary (Amazon has one or more)because this book was written by an Englishman and some terms will likely not be familiar.

4.0 out of 5 stars The same book as "First catch your peacock", November 24, 2009
This review is from: Traditional Food from Wales (Hardcover)
I hadn't realized it until I got fairly deep into my university library's online research system, because Amazon doesn't give an indication of this. But this is the New York press release of a book that was first published by Y Lolfa in Wales under the title First Catch Your Peacock: Her Classic Guide to Welsh Food

If you see used copies of that book, the content should be pretty much the same as this, though I don't yet know if the New York publishers did anything like Americanizing British spelling or not since the interlibrary loan hasn't come through yet. (I didn't want to purchase two copies of an out of print book and take it out of someone else's hands just to compare spellings...)

Although this book has no pictures if your interested in Wales it is worth getting.I read this book from cover to cover and enjoyed all of it. Full of recipes that I have tried and loved and lots of history about Wales that is interesting to read. More than just a cookbook, highly recommended.
