About the Author

George L. Thomson was born in Scotland in 1916. At the age of sixteen he was given a scholarship to Edinburgh College of Art and studied under Irene Wellington, possibly the finest calligrapher of this century. His first book, Better Handwriting, was an immediate bestseller. Following this publication, Thompson began working on a traditional cookbook series which to date, includes Christmas Recipes and Traditional Scottish Recipes as well as his newest addition, Traditional Irish Recipes. Since retiring from teaching art, Thomson had become a visiting lecturer and has numerous commissions for his artwork which, besides calligraphy, includes wood and stone carving, pottery, book binding, and engraving. --This text refers to an alternate Paperback edition.
