Important contribution preserving 19th C Cornish folklore,
By billrowe@gandolf.com (Chico, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Drolls, Traditions and Superstitions of Old Cornwall Pb (Giants, fairies, Tregagle, mermaids, lost cities, rocks, fire, worship, demons) (Paperback)
Robert Hunt's book continues today to be an important work, frequently cited by contemporary scholars, in that it captures a priceless collection of Cornish folklore that was already disappearing in the 19th Century. Had these stories, legends, and tales been lost, the world would have lost some very enjoyable stories indeed. This is a book to which I continually refer. It is an invaluable addition to my collection and I highly recommend it. It is broken into sections of related tales and is very easy to read. I have re-read these stories often and enjoy each visit. I would have liked to have met Mr. Hunt. Bill Rowe
