I LOVE THIS GRILL!,
This review is from: Traeger Texas Pellet Grill
I love my Traeger! I was a bit weary getting my grill becasue of a few reviews saying that this grill can't sear a steak and a couple reviews stating about it being made in China now and how the quality isn't what it used to be so I looked a bit further into it. First of all there are a TON more positive reviews then bad. After reading more into it Traeger moved production from the USA to China a few years ago and did have some quality issues but apparently they've handled most if not all of them.
I saw a live demonstration at my local Costco and decided to pick it up. Steaks are killer! If you like your steaks blackened then it may not be the best grill for you because it's indirect cooking so it will not char or burn the food. You can still get grill marks but they're more faint then a propane or charcoal grill but I really don't care because the food TASTE AMAZING and it's the juiciest steak i've ever had! My wife and I have done Steaks, Chicken (best i've every had!!!), Sweet Potatoes, Asparagus, Corn, Bell Peppers etc... we've done Meat Loaf (WOW!), Did Tri-Tips for the 4th of July this year and stole the show at the bbq/party we went to and i've baked cookies a couple of times for dessert which are surprisingly amazing. Traeger is really supposed to be known for it's Smoking and Slow Cooking abilities but I haven't really done much of that. I usually don't plan that far ahead. I've had 5 different families over to eat and 4 of them now have their own Traegers after eating the food off my grill. Their kids were eating food off my grill that they usually would never eat at home. My friends wife who doesn't eat much red meat on 2 occasions couldn't get a enough of the Tri Tip and the Ribeye. Another friend of mine love his steaks "Black and Blue", I told him that I couldn't get it Black and Blue for him but I would keep it rare. I actually over cooked the Ribeye just a bit for him and he was still telling me how much he loved his steak. I honestly thought he was being nice until his wife told me he asked his wife to get him a Traeger for his birthday. Overall this is a great grill! I think twice about going over to a friends when I know they're cooking on propane and find myself just inviting them to our house. (You will find yourself entertaining a bit more then usual) The food really does taste better on this grill. Hope this helps some of you in making your decision.

Great Grill, bad price,

This grill can do almost everything. We bake pizza on it, that adds a great smoke flavor just like a brick oven pizza. Smoking is great as is grilling. If your in a hurry, not so good. It takes time, but it's well worth it. The price through Ace sucks! You can get this grill for less than half at Pellet Grill Outlet. Would not hesitate to buy this grill at a fair price!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Traeger Texas Pellet Grill
I bought the Texas Grill via Amazon about a month ago after seeing the Lil Texas at a friends house. Love the technology, love the wood pellet mechanism, clean up is pretty easy. Great way to go green while retaining the positive attributes of real wood BBQ. I have only 3 complaints, well, two complaints and one desire. On the desire side, I wish the grill had a higher max temp. Mine maxes out around 450 - 475. I'd like to see 550 for a more effective sear. On the complaint side, first the thermostatic temp control isn't accurate or consistent enough. The lowest real temp setting is 175, however, often times when I select "smoke", the temp below 175, the temperature exceeds 175. It takes a long time to stabilize. Second complaint, after one use, both the heat diffuser and the grease drip tray started to oxidize badly. It would appear that there's nothing that can be done about it. Makes handling the pieces during cleaning a pain in the butt. Traeger was very responsive during the pre purchase process, radio silent to emails post purchase. That's pretty disappointing. Hope I don't have an actual problem in the future.
