The best representation of Traffic,
By
This review is from: Traffic Gold (Audio CD)
Gold is the best representation of the best of Traffic out there. It has everything you could ever want from Traffic. I mean really this covers their whole carear. From 'Dear Mr. Fantasy' to 'The Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys.'
'Rock And Roll Stew' 'Rain Maker' 'Dealer' there all here. Traffics hard rock edge, their drug induced psycadelia, their amazing folk rock, I.E. 'John Barlie Corn Must Die.' The masterfull musician ship of Steve Winnwood is presented here perfectly. So while most best ofs are terrible, and mainly these Gold collections are really bad this one is one that everybody should have in their collection!

2 CDs of Traffic at its best,

This samples from everything Traffic recorded up until 1974 including a few live cuts ("Gimme Some Loving"). If you like the band, all areas of that time period are included including some of the lengthier album songs. It's hard to argue with the song selection and the CDs are a good length as well.
One note: the 1994 reunion of Steve Winwood and Jim Capaldi is not included. A number of these Gold releases exclude the more recent material and focus on the older songs and that is the case here.

The best Traffic hits collection out there,
By
This review is from: Traffic Gold (Audio CD)
There are quite a few Traffic greatest hits/best of collections out there. They can be useful for turning new fans on who aren't really familiar with the band or artist if they're put together well. This one covers the most ground and has the best sound quality. Don't bother with the other "hits" cds.

A great all-round selection of Traffic's music. All but 3 of the first album tracks are there and a generous selection from other albums. And it's remastered, and as with all "Gold" releases, the tracks are in chronological order with info on the particular albums they came from.
Greatest Hits albums are really great though when they include rare tracks previously only available as singles - it's a pity the wonderful "Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush" wasn't included here. You have to buy the first album remaster to get that, and consequently double up on 8 tracks.

I have been a fan of Traffic and Steve Winwood and Dave Mason for a long time and have been looking for this collection for a while. Its everything you could want from Traffic and then some. A good "sister disc" for Steve Winwood fans is the double cd live at Madison Square Garden with Eric Clapton.

This is a solid collection. For real afficianados, some great songs are missing though, meaning you need to have copies of a few albums like "Traffic" and "Mr. Fantasy". Most of the best are on this CD though.

This collection entitled "Traffic Gold" is much more a history of Steve Winwood. With the tracks "I'm a Man", done with the Spencer Davis Group in his teen years, Blind Faith's beautiful "Can't Find My Way Home" and "Presence of the Lord", on into Traffic's "Welcome to the Canteen", "Low Spark of High Heel Boys" and "John Barleycorn" make this a treasure of classic British rock.

I recieved two of these and both had flaws in them. Music is great but the discs were bad. A bad run because the flaws were in the same spots so I will try another time.
