3.0 out of 5 stars NOT A BAD BOOK
I have had my fair share of speeding tickets. With the help of this book and my favorite, the Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets by Richard Wallace, I beat almost every ticket in court. Both books help prepare you for court. The Educated Guide even has a chapter on how to avoid getting stopped and ticketed in the first place. Also, the author Mr. Wallace is a former cop...

I recently received a speeding ticket that was unfair (aren't they all?) and had to go to court. This book helped me understand what to expect and offered some interesting ideas for defending myself. It demystified the court process for me and relieved my anxiety quite a bit.

A lot of the book assumes that the person reading it is ticked off by the arrogance of the cop who ticketed him and wants to get even. If this is your case, you will probably enjoy this book, and you might even be successful in embarrassing the officer who ticketed you.

There is also some helpful advice in the beginning of the book about what to say and do if you are stopped. I wish I'd had this all in my mind when I was stopped.

I skimmed four books on defending one's self in traffic court. As my court date approached, I decoded this one was the most useful of the four and I read it in detail. Of course, not everything the author says applies to every state or every county, but I think the author makes pretty clear what is part of usual operating procedures and what you may or may not see as part of courtroom procedures when you are being tried.

5.0 out of 5 stars Screw unto others as they screw unto you., December 1, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
This book is hilarious. It instructs you that, once you are stopped, the traffic court will find you guilty 90% of the time regardless of how impeccable your defense. The book does a good job of setting these expectations, and redirecting your goals. Sure, the system is an unfair game designed to take your money. However, the system is a game nonetheless, and you may as well have fun playing it.

A cop pulled me over in Brandon, Mississippi for speeding 10 miles above the speed limit. The cop didn't know exactly how fast I was going, so he wrote me a "Careless Driving" ticket. In Mississippi, the careless driving statute is worded so vaguely that there exists no effective defense against it. Calls to several lawyers as I prepared to fight the charges confirmed this fact. So I bought this book and prepared to fight the charges myself rather than spend $250-500 on an attorney.

I still lost in court, but had the most fun for $82 dollars that I have ever had in my life. Not only did the cop perjure himself several times, but by the end of the trial, the prosecutor was literally screaming at the judge, screaming at me, his face was fire engine red, his hands were shaking, and his closing arguments were nothing more than how he wasn't going to stand for this from someone who's not even a lawyer.

I have only two suggestions for the book. The book suggests seeking legal resources at the library. However, State Code and State Supreme Court case law is available online these days, and this book should really instruct the reader on how to find these resources. Secondly, while I realize that the author is attempting to provide only an outline of general traffic defense methods, the author also claims to have tried several thousand traffic cases. A few more real-world examples would have done wonders for this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Required reading for any driver., January 22, 1997

This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
This book gives an excellent overall view of the traffic court system and how to beat it. If you have ever wanted to fight a traffic ticket this book will help. The author gives detailed examples of how to fight a traffic ticket for the time its written to the final judgement of not guilty. The book focuses on the steps the court must follow to get a conviction and how you can upset the process to your advantage and exploit the courts flaws. Written in an easy to understand language the author does not bog the reader down with difficult legal terms only lawers would understand. Instead an easy step by step process is laid out for the reader to follow right down to the questions that should be asked in court. The author also provides detailed examples of cout testimony for cases ranging from speeding tickets to running red lights. After reading the book you'll feel stupid for ever having paid a fine, even if you were guilty Don't just pay up when you get your next ticket buy this book and learn how to fight it and win

5.0 out of 5 stars Get this Book!, October 24, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
If you have been issued a ticket then get this book. It will help you prepare and win in court. If you haven't got a ticket yet, definitly get this book; then you will know what to say and do before you get pulled over. This will make winning in court much easlier. I have read four other books on this subject and this one is the best hands down. This book has saved me from getting a ticket by knowing what to say: ie "I was following the flow of traffic". The cop wasn't happy with me, but since I was following him, he didn't write me. If I haven't read this book, I would probably admitted to speeding and tried to talk my way out of it. That wouldn't(and hasn't) worked. But knowing what to say caused the officer not to write me; Not because he didn't want too, he just know I would win in court. I wasn't admitting anything. PS: I like cops. I have had friends who were cops, but I don't like that they are forced into writing unneeded tickets by local governments who just want to raise money! If they don't write enough tickets, they lose federal highway funds and state funds. The police are told to write x number of tickets are their budget will be cut.

This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
The perfect book for anyone representing themself in court against a traffic ticket. The author presents a clear, concise, step by step guide from the time you get the ticket through the court precedings. With this book, no one should just "pay the ticket". Take it to court and WIN with this easy to follow, detailed instruction book written by someone who has represented thousands of "ticket cases" in court. And the author has a good sense of humor to help you get through the process without it seeming to be "brain surgery". I won my case without even getting to court.

5.0 out of 5 stars you NEED this book if u drive--especially if u get tickets!, July 22, 1998

This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
GET A TICKET LATELY?? Then ORDER this book right now!! This book and "Beating the Radar Rap" are THE ultimate sources for handling your day in court. Who better to write a book than a TRAFFIC COURT LAWYER???!!! This book has 60+ pages of questions already written out for you to ask the officer in court. All of the following are covered in this book: speeding tickets, radar, laser, VASCAR, failure to yield right of way, following too close, illegal lane change, RED-LIGHT tickets, sign tickets--stop, no left turn, no u-turn, yield, right lane must turn right, left turn only, no right on red, etc. The book is written for the average day person that doesn't know JACK about traffic court. NEVER ADMIT GUILT when you are asked questions by the officer when he pulls you over! When the police officer asks you, "Do you know why I stopped you?" DO NOT SAY, "Yeah I was probably speeding," or, "Yeah I just ran that red-light." YOU H! AVE JUST SAID I'M GUILTY and basically ruined any chance you have of winning your case in court. Officers are trained to get you to admit guilt when they pull you over. They do NOT have to read you your rights for a traffic stop--"The right to remain silent." THIS BOOK tells you what to say and what not to say when you are stopped so that you can WIN IN TRAFFIC COURT. Don't just pay your tickets like the other 95% of the population. Go to court and FIGHT your ticket. You CAN WIN, if you have this book!!

Wallace is a former cop and he even returned my phone call to him, imagine that! These insider information books really help people fight back at a greedy system designed JUST to make money for the governments.
Thanks amazon.com for carrying such great books!

2.0 out of 5 stars The Educated Guide Is Better...It's Written By A Cop!, February 18, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
I got another speeding ticket in Connecticut, with the help of the Educated Guide to Speeding Tickets, How To Beat & Avoid Them written by an ex cop, Richard Wallace, I beat my case in a court in Connecticut. I loved the book, it really helped. Well, I got another speeding ticket, and was checking around on Amazon.com for other books on speeding tickets, and found the Traffic Ticket Defense, it looked interesting, so I bought it. The book is OK, but not great. It contains alot of info but alot of comes from common sense stuff, but the book is not as good as the Educated Guide, which is down to earth, written by a cop who tells all, it is well written, full of useful information. I just believe an excop over other people. Mr. Wallace has a website, and even returned my phone call. He has a toll free number. Anyway, enough free advertising for Mr. Wallace's book. The Traffic Ticket Defense book should be bought AFTER you buy the Educated Guide To Speeding Tickets. Together, they work well and you will win in court.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for it's intended purpose - winning in court!!, December 30, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
This book is great for it's intended purpose - winning your case in court. In fact, that's what the ENTIRE book is devoted to. Unlike similar books, there's no information about different types of radar/laser devices or getting out of your ticket when you get pulled over, but there is LOTS of info on how to prepare and win your case once your court date rolls around.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good start, June 29, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Traffic Ticket Defense (Paperback)
Every county and town is different, but this book gives some good general strategy. I disagree with avoiding a jury trial (always demand one, at worst the court says no). I recommend joining the National Motorists Association and talk to the "state activist". Familiarizing yourself with local court idiosyncracies is crucial and not mentioned in this book. Schmoozing and pumping information from the County court clerk can be helpful also.
