More About the Author

I am the Samuel R. Rosen Professor at the Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. My latest book, which was profiled on C-Span's Book TV, is a biography of John Bingham, the framer of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution and one of the prosecutors in the trial of John Wilkes Booth's accomplices. My next book will be about the Bill of Rights.

This book is an enormously interesting and thought provoking look at the impact of the Bryan-lead populist political movement in the last decade of 19th century America and the extent to which the establishment's fear of it, as manifested in a series of Supreme Court decisions including Plessy Ferguson, changed the arc of constitutional evolution.

Format: Hardcover
This was a required reading for a law class taught by the author. Much like " Andrew Jackson and the Constitution: The Rise and Fall of Generational Regimes" I thought this book struck the balance between being easy to read and follow while still being a great, scholarly work.
