Poet of Chicago Surfacing Culture,
By
This review is from: Tragic Faggot Syndrome (Paperback)
Thax Douglas has filtered Chicago surfacing culture through his pores for 2 decades or so. The beat-inflected verse in this volume distills indie band shows (often at the scruffiest venues), performance art pieces, and poetry readings into abstract portraits of the artists at work.Though apparently composed in situ and from close observation, these poems reveal to me as much about the creativity of perception as the characters of the artists observed (Lawrence Steger, Eleventh Dream Day, Sam Prekop some notables). A must for literate and adventurous music fans with interest of Chicago culture. Poetry readers whose tastes run to the City Lights crowd check this out too.

It opened my eyes as to what life is all about. I recommend it to all my friends who are 'confused'.
