James Kauffman shares another masterpiece - a passionate look at public education. This is a thought provoking book I encourage my students to read and ponder. A 5 star rating is an understatement.

James Kauffman has done it again with his honesty in relating the real tragicomedy within and outside of our public schools today. Each chapter is a commentary on our schools but in addition, Kauffman actually proposes some realistic solutions to the issues surrounding our schools and the tragicomedy of it all. This is one of the most insightful books that I have ever read and it is reader friendly. This should be a must read especially for parents, educators, and policy makers. Kauffman's book is well worth the investment on so many levels. The Tragicomedy of Public Education

Unlike writers of many books bemoaning the state of education today, Kauffman refuses to be distracted by the myriad issues which most authors believe have caused the current disaster that is U.S. public schooling. As he has always done, James Kauffman goes to the actual, deeply entrenched issues undermining our education policy and practice. I won't give anything away, but suffice it to say that this is the book you must read if you really want to understand why schools are they way they are today.

The book is enjoyable to read, written in Kauffman's standard witty yet brilliant, style. Many readers will undoubtedly take issue with Kauffman's analysis for one - or both - of two reasons. Some readers will be unable to comprehend his discussion and contemplate in in a critical fashion, a fact most ironic indeed given the book's content. Others will see the truth in what Kauffman says, but find it too daunting to create improvements for schools based on this book's spot on analysis.

If you have not read anything by James Kauffman, by all means snap this book up immediately and start here. If you are already a fan of his writing and thinking, you will find yourself yet again saying, "Yes! That's exactly right!" and "Finally, somebody who can explain the situation in a logical fashion!"

If more than five stars were available to me, I'd put them above this rating.
