5.0 out of 5 stars This Song KIX!
And I think the actual rap bits may actually be in Korean...but i'm not sure...Either way, it's a great and rarified song, and ACO (one of my favourite Japanese singers) sings a great chorus. This song gets stuck in my head SO OFTEN even though i've barely a clue what they're talking of (and wanna find out;)
Reccomended!:)

Tragicomic- the biggest hinderance to this song is the male vocalist. He delivers his lines inarticulately, preventing the song from getting any punch to it. He mummbles through his parts, leaving us with little to hold onto or remember. The female vocalist, on the other hand, is quite good. Her voice ranges from full and cutting to a quiet whisper. Unfortunately,...

He mummbles through his parts, leaving us with little to hold onto or remember. The female vocalist, on the other hand, is quite good. Her voice ranges from full and cutting to a quiet whisper. Unfortunately, her parts are few.

Tragicomic "beyond real mix"- Remixed by Dj Spinna, this version of the song is refreshing after the first. It adds a stronger beat, some flutes and a peppering of interesting sounds.

Tragicomic instrumental- This track is also good because it focuses on what I bought the CD for, Dj Krush's music. The hook is a nice, catchy bass and the beat is well constructed. Unfortunately the song was made to be rapped over so the first half of it passes by without much variation. After that the song picks up, though. The bass changes around a bit and a synthesiser steps in and out. But, overall dissapointing considering Krush's other work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Krush and Japan, December 26, 2000

Rare and very interesting disk. Many good themes of downtempo music was burn in Japan. Country with great trip-hop electronicaly atmosphere. Krush was born in Japan. Native power helped to him to made a greatest music self-remixes. Profesional scratches, calm drum loops and soft, very soft sound of Krush`s magic trip-hop. Its like a dream, dream with Japanese experience...

3.0 out of 5 stars Target demographic: Japanese rap fans., July 13, 2001
This review is from: Tragicomic (Audio CD)
In my opinion, DJ Krush produces of some of the freshest hip-hop in the world today. His many collaborations with jazz musicians (particularly Toshinori Kondo on "Ki-Oku"), rappers (ranging from Black Thought of the Roots to Mos Def), and other producers (check out "Duality" with DJ Shadow or "Le Temps" with DJ Cam) have been outstanding. This single sees Krush collaborating with a Japanese rapper (ACO) and singer (Twigy).

The beat is outstanding, but it's obviously designed for a rapper; on its own it becomes somewhat repetitive. The closest comparison would be the "Intro" on "MiLight." The problem here for me is the Japanese rapping. Because this single was only released in Japan and since the target demographic are Japanese, maybe I don't have any right to diss it. But all the same, I don't think the Japanese language translates well into the rap aesthetic. A lot of it seems to lack articulation (or maybe I'm just ignorant because I don't know Japanese) and flow. My roommate this past year was a Japanese exchange student and I got a chance to hear a lot of Japanese hip-hop (DJ Oasis, Dragon Ash, etc.). A lot of the beats were tight, but language just doesn't do it for me in the same way that English, French or German does. Another language that doesn't do rap particularly well is Russian (pronounce the word rap like "rep" with your r rolled). I'm not dissing Japanese or Russian rap; personally, I just don't care for the sound of their respective languages over a rap beat. But I'll keep an open mind. If anyone out there hears something that just blows their mind, send me an e-mail.
