5.0 out of 5 stars Trailer Life Directory
We just finished a 3,500 mile trip through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah. The Directory was very valuable in helping us plan our days drive. It allowed us to locate the R V sites along the route and we found it to be accurate and extremely helpful. This is a good purchase for anyone planning to camp during their trip.

DO NOT BUY THIS

When I bought this I didn't quite grasp from the other reviews just how bad the binding was or what that would mean. I figured it was bad, but it would probably start falling apart after a summer of usage. The second time I opened it pages started falling out. By the end of my vacation maybe an eighth of the pages were loose. Combine this with the fact that the the dimensions of this are too large to fit easily on anything but a table, or carry in most bags, and it becomes really awkward to use. Towards the end of the trip I just ended up ripping out the page or two I'd need for the day. They were going to fall out anyway and it was much easier to deal with a folded page than the whole book.

The listings are really annoying too. There's a push-pin icon on the map at the town that has a campground (occasionally this obscures a junction on the map). BUT you then have to flip to the back to see what was actually there. In the back you'd find the name of the campground, but not the address or phone number. So, you can't actually get to the campground using the information in the atlas, because the push-pin is on the town, not the campground's location. Campgrounds at state and national parks are totally glossed over. There *may* be an icon on the map indicating that somewhere near one end of the park there's a campground, but frequently there isn't.

I give it 2 stars because the maps were actually decent.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Trailer Life Directory RV Road Atlas, April 7, 2009
This review is from: The Trailer Life Directory RV Road Atlas (Paperback)
Although this is exactly what I wanted, I was disappointed that the binding was not good and upon first use the spine of the book cracked releasing several pages. I figured it was more trouble to return so we put clips on the spine. This is a good product and was promptly received for a fair price. Binding issue is more of an issue for the book-maker not Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with this atlas, September 2, 2009

The binding is useless. Ours too was losing pages after two days, and you can't use it while driving because you can't lay it down without losing your place. But beyond that, the information in the atlas is not all that valuable. It is supposed to show routes that are suitable for big RVs, but only the major highways and interstates are indicated as suitable, which is something you knew anyway since after all they are major highways and interstates.
I'm really surprised that Trailer Life and Good Sam allow their names to be associated with this junk atlas. Just get the Trailer Life campground directory and a Rand McNally atlas. If you need big RV routes, get the trucker's atlas.

3.0 out of 5 stars Very good but it does not lay flat, December 19, 2008

An excellent atlas should have a spiral binding so that the atlas can be opened and laid flat to the page that is being used. I made this suggestion to the publishers years ago buy no change has been made. This atlas contains very useful information. It is a shame that it is hard to use because it is not able to lay flat. Since it will not stay open at the page being used, the user has to search for the page and reopen the atlas every time he or she wants to use the information instead of leaving it open to the correct page while it is being used.

This is a good road atlas for campers with large rv's but it is not bound good. It will not lie flat and the first time I opened it some of the maps started pulling loose from the binding.

1.0 out of 5 stars trailer life atlas dies quickly, August 20, 2009
This review is from: The Trailer Life Directory RV Road Atlas (Paperback)
three days after we received the trailer life atlas it began to fall apart. the pages began to come loose from the binding. the pages are quite large and will become wrinkled and torn quickly. it will also be very hard to keep the pages in the book, and to keep them in any order is impossible. i have rated this item one star but it fact, the atlas is nearly unusable.

1.0 out of 5 stars RV Road Atlas, December 30, 2010

Having recently bought a travel trailer, we figured this to be a "must have". However, the first time we opened it, the binding cracked and pages fell out. Believe what you read here, folks, from so many of us experiencing the same thing. Avoid this product until something is done to improve the quality. It would be a lot of trouble to keep this poorly made, oversize book together while traveling (perhaps in the large bag). I am requesting a refund, but will purchase it again once we can be assured that quality control problems are resolved. Judging from reviews written many months ago, that doesn't seem too likely in the foreseeable future. Amazon ought to pull this book until such a major problem is corrected. All this aside, the maps are quite good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Binding issue, October 10, 2010
This review is from: The Trailer Life Directory RV Road Atlas (Paperback)
I use the road atlas a lot but the binding of this new version started comming apart right away leaving me with unattached sheets. I liked the old method with the folded sheets that would open flat. However, I would be willing to pay more to have this atlas with a spiral binding so it would open flat. Other than that, using this atlas with the campground book works very well.

2.0 out of 5 stars Bad Binding, July 5, 2009
This review is from: The Trailer Life Directory RV Road Atlas (Paperback)
We have had this atlas for one week and just flipping through it the pages started coming loose. The binding job was poorly done and it would be more useful if it was spiral bound so that it could be laid flat on the page you want to use. I won't be buying another one until the binding is changed.
