Book Description

November 1, 2007
Until the night his parents are murdered, Elvis Taggard's world doesn't extend far beyond the Starry Night Trailer Park. He never suspects there's a secret society of bloodsuckers lurking in the shadows of the main streets and back roads of modern-day America. All that changes one fateful night come dinnertime after a sexy succubus satisfies her hunger by gorging on second helpings of the boy's momma and daddy. Elvis stakes her, then sets out to slay the rest of the children of the night, weaving a bloody path of destruction that stretches from southern mansions to trailer parks, from northeastern goth clubs to the set of a high budget Hollywood splatter movie. With the help of a lunatic millionaire and an Irish Vampire with a serious chip on his shoulder and a set of sharp canines in his mouth to match-Elvis might accomplish just that-unless the trio wind up killing one another before the vampires get there first.

Review

Buffy meets Supernatural with a bit of Near Dark thrown in!

Welcome to the world of Elvis Taggard - he lives in a trailer park and spends his days ditching school with his best friend. It is a simple life; he doesn't expect much and doesn't receive much, but this all changes the night that his parents are brutally murdered right in front of him. Elvis swears revenge against his parents' killers and will use any means necessary to make sure his parent's deaths are avenged. The only problem is that his parents' killers are vampires!

Elvis and Erik, his newly acquired and independently wealthy friend, travel from city to city killing all the blood-suckers that they can find.

Trailer Trash is the first novel from Scott T. Goudsward, and it brings together all of the elements that a good vampire novel requires: warring vampire factions, slayers, road trips, wooden stakes and Hollywood. As well as Elvis' exciting and action-packed adventure, the author also refers to another vampire tale within the book. This is the story of Dorian and Deirdre, their flight from Ireland and the encounters that they have with a vampire overlord named Kane. At times the story of Dorian and Deirdre is slightly more intriguing (but not as action-packed) and my only wish is that the author could have fleshed out their story a little more. However, I am sure this is the plan for book two - and by just giving us a taste of Dorian and Deirdre's story, the author builds anticipation for the next installment.

So, if you want to read a Vampire story that has all the teen slayers of Buffy, the spookiness of Supernatural and the grittiness of Near Dark, then Trailer Trash is the book for you.

He has had an avid interest in the horror genre since seeing the horror classic, Friday the 13th, when he was only 13. 4.0 out of 5 stars A Bloody Good Time, December 4, 2007
This review is from: Trailer Trash (Paperback)
The story centers on protagonist Elvis Taggard, kidnapped by a sexy female vampire after she kills his parents. Seizing an opportunity to free himself, Elvis stakes his undead captor and makes his escape, vowing to destroy other `children of the night' as payback. He meets up with a crazy millionaire named Erik, employed by a mysterious group known only as `The Sponsors'.

Their mission is suppose to be a simple one - go into `cold spots' and make sure there are no vampires. The assignments are anything but `cold'. Following orders from The Sponsors, they make their way across America to the set of a high-budget movie in Hollywood, California. The finale comes rather swiftly yet leaves room for a sequel.

The author balances several subplots at once and does it amazingly well. As Erik researches the vampire species, yearning to join them, fighting amongst the various vampire clans forces twins Dorian and Deirdre to choose their own paths, dividing brother and sister. Meanwhile, Elvis struggles with the thought of being left alone, after he learns Erik's secret desire.

Scott takes you on a teeth-gnashing thrill ride, filled with enough bloody action to keep the reader turning pages well into the night. I recommend Trailer Trash to anyone who likes a good vampire story.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fast, entertaining read, February 17, 2007
This review is from: Trailer Trash (Paperback)
This book is told from the viewpoint of a human, Elvis Taggard, on a mission to kill as many vampires as possible to avenge the death of his parents. His closest ally for most of the book wants to be a vampire himself, so there's conflict on that front. The vampires, led by Jonathan Kane, have their share of internal conflict too. The author juggles several balls in the air well with a conclusion that manages to provide closure while leaving some room for a sequel. Anne Rice would prattle on for nearly 1,000 pages without tying any loose ends up. Horror fans, especially vampire aficionados would find this worth picking up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rambo meets bloodsuckers, October 17, 2008

Morven Westfield (Massachusetts, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trailer Trash (Paperback)
As other reviewers have noted, this is a fast-paced book. It's not so fast-paced, though, that the author loses sight of characterization and plot details. The tale is told in the first person, giving an immediacy to the telling. It's also a heck of a lot of fun to read.
