Trailing spouse was defined by Mary Bralove of the Wall Street Journal in 198l, and was initially used to describe the partners of expatriates who relocate due to work or career opportunities. However, trailing spouse is more broadly applied these days. Since there are so many men and women in the military, it also applies to military spouses. In addition, since jobs are in such short supply, it also applies to any of you who choose to follow your spouse across the country or to another country for their employment.

A study by the Permits Foundation found that 82% of trailing spouses or partners had a university degree and 90% of them were forced to relinquish their own jobs in order to pursue their partner’s move abroad.

In this book you can learn an alternative-- working for yourself as a tutor.

Editorial Reviews

"Best book for military spouses to earn money."--Military Spouse

4.0 out of 5 stars Good book on earning money as a spouse January 28, 2013
By Henry
Format:Kindle Edition
I would recommend this book for those who want to earn money at home tutoring. Especially if you have to relocate and need to start earning in each new location. The book starts with making the choice to see the new location as a new beginning. The rest of the book presents details on setting up a business and getting started working at home. There are a lot of useful online resources in this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Money maker March 24, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
From the cover of the book you wouldn't know that the entire book is about tutoring. But it is, which isn't a bad thing. The best part is you don't have to be a woman or a trailing spouse in order to benefit. If you are looking to supplement your income, want temporary work, a college student, or looking to start your own business this book is for you. The book does a great job in helping you identify if you want to be a tutor, what your goals are, what subjects to tutor, where to do it, and how much to charge. There is a tremendous amount of good info in this book and it's organized very well. I just don't like the title. Other than that I recommend this to everyone looking for ways to make more money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relevant and valuable information March 22, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
I'm a stay at home wife that had been out of work for several years. I really enjoyed teaching my kids when they were still living at home (they were home-schooled and in university and college now) and I had considered going back to school to get a teaching degree, but life got in the way and I was never able to pursue it. It was my husband that gave me the idea to start a home tutoring business so I could get back to teaching. Long story short, I have been really successful with my tutoring business all thanks to the information in this book. It's a short read, but the information is detailed, concise, organized, and most importantly, relevant. Great work by Davidson-Fujioka; highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good start to part time money! March 21, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
Attraction is key in all things - including attracting students. I look forward to utilizing the tactics presented in this book in order to create a lucrative side gig while traveling abroad. Change is good and this book will help anyone to embrace change as they may have to travel and jobs are scarce. I like the idea of creating your own job.

The break down of the equipment that you will need is great! The check list is worth look in to and in to the investment if necessary. I never knew there were so many choices for helping students to learn online and to help teachers to stay organized. I plan on utilizing these tools.

I like how the authors places their real world experiences in the book - this helps immensely. With the motivation from this book, I can envision myself having several students of whom are learning and loving to speak english.

Kim knows all there is to know about tutoring, as she did it personally for more than twenty-five years. So, not only is this non-fiction book, very informative from start to ' finish, it is also a true book of inspiration for those who are seeking inspiration most from a home tutoring aspect. She also reveals to readers in detail, how they can escape the very real pitfalls, that economic dependence can have on each person. The way to get past all of these very stressful pitfalls is by establishing his or her own very successful at home tutoring businesses. Being dependent on the economy is not the way, being dependent on your skills as a top home tutor is indeed the way.
