3.0 out of 5 stars "TRAIL OF THE CAT: EL GATO", April 10, 2011

This review is from: Trailsman 192: Durango Duel (Paperback)
1860

San Juan Mountains

Southwest Colorado

Rocky Mountains

Joaquin Hernandez, or El Gato, is a pistolero and bandido who has troubled the honest folks of Animas City, though they have tried to track him down to rid the area of him, they have failed. A few trackers have disappeared: either dead or have just absconded with the bounty money they were paid.

Enter Skye Fargo, just passing through as usual, drawn in through the activities of an old mountain man, his two granddaughers and a local pistolero, Alonzo de Leon, who calls himself, the Durango Kid.

Due to the Durango Kid's killing of El Gato's brother, several assassins are paid by El Gato to kill the Durango Kid, but none can get the job done. Tiring of these efforts, and also realizing the danger to many people beyond the Kid, Skye Fargo and the Kid head into the mountains, to track down 'the cat'. The last half of the book records their efforts and the inclusion of the Ute Indians into the plot.

Not the greatest of Trailsman novels but a good read none-the-less. Again I assume from written evidence, this book was not written by David Robbins. The style of writing plus the length of the chapters induce me to think so (also the name J.B. Keller is associated with the book). However, another readable book in the ongoing Trailsman saga from December, 1997.

Keep reading those westerns, especially The Trailsman series, pards.

Semper Fi.
