Terrific Trailsman!,
By Russ Haworth (New Mexico) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Trailsman #251, The :: Utah Uproar (Paperback)
I can't remember being so drawn into a first chapter in ages. A very visual description of a sandstorm, left me breathless! Dirt Breathers and Air Breathers and Fargo in the middle make for one heck of an exciting read. Utah Uproar is one of my faves in the Trailsman series.

"Fargo had to admit he sure did have a knack for getting into dangerous situations.",

Even though this episode was published a few years ago;don't let that deter you from reading it---it's a real "corker". The story starts off with Fargo getting lost and on the verge of death,in a vicious sandstorm in the Great Salt Lake Desert in 1861.To make matters even more desperate ,he has even lost his faithful Ovaro ,his rifle, water and other possessions. This is one of the best descriptions one can find describing how dangerous sandstorms can get;equally as dangerous as a blizzard. After surviving the ordeal in the desert,Fargo really gets himself mixed up with a feud between two opposing factions fighting over a gold discovery. This feud is almost diabolical and has been going on since 1849 ,many deaths have already occurred and it's Fargo's job to figure which of the two groups of madmen he should side with. It's a great tale, filled with lots of well developed characters,It seems that Skye Fargo has come to the end of his rope;not once but several times. A great read, like many others in this long running Old West western. |
