TRAIN-MIDNIGHT MOON,
By A Customer
This review is from: Train - Midnight Moon (DVD)
I had heard "Meet Virginia" and "Drops of Jupiter" many times on the radio, but didn't understand how fantastic some of the lessor known songs were until I saw Train in concert. These guys are awesome players, and their melodies and lyrics are fantastic. I haven't been this excited about a band in a long time. This DVD has the best of the best. Great choice of songs and the performances are excellent. A previous reviewer mentioned that the vocals do not come from the center channel, and I agree that the vocals could be a bit clearer, but it still doesn't detract from this being my favorite music DVD I own. Buy this DVD!

Great performance, Poor sound quality.,

First of all I have the first and second CD's of Train. I have just about "worn out" the CD's with repeated playing so I do love the material. First the positives about this DVD release. You get 17 songs most of which are from the "Drops of Jupiter" CD. The major songs from the first album are included as well. There is also the cover of Led Zeppelin's "Ramble On". This rousing version alone would justify the purchase of the DVD! The concert itself is in Train's hometown of San Francisco. The band comes across as very appreciate of the success they have experienced. The energy of the band is captured nicely. Now the not so good: The sound and picture quality are to say the least lacking. The picture is not typical of the better concert DVD's out there. The Eagles, James Taylor, Fleetwood Mac are all good examples of what the picture and sound can and should be. The image quality of this concert comes across as very "VHS like". The sound is Dolby Digital 5.1. The first thing I noticed was the sound was very strident. The mids and lows tend to be very lacking. Even after tinkering with the tone controls I was unable to "fix" the sound. The center channel while active is only minimally used. Its primary purpose is to provide ambient concert sounds. No vocals come from the center channel. Overall the sound I would only rate as average and that is being generous. In closing if you are a fan you have to of course get the DVD. It is a very good summary of their work to date. It is unfortunate that greater care was not taken with producing a better looking and sounding DVD.

Train: Midnight Moon,

Great concert filmed at the Warfield in San Francisco in May of 2001. You won't go wrong buying this DVD, especially if you are a huge Train fan like me. There are also Bio's on all the band members, a Bonus video of Drops of Jupiter and footage of the band around San Francisco.
