This is a simulation game that roars alone the train tracks rather than through the air. Unlike several flight simulation games, this one has no war games attached to it. 3.0 out of 5 stars It's Good...but...
This simulator is good, providing you only want to ride and deal with a few trains only. It lacks of sense and proper means to build your own lines or to create a train of your own. Also, is very difficult to find out how you can improve or create new trains. I will only recommend this game for starters in the train simulation "business".Otherwise, in my opinion, Trainz...

This is a simulation game that roars alone the train tracks rather than through the air. Unlike several flight simulation games, this one has no war games attached to it. It includes only the rail routes of six actual lines in history, from Britain's 1920s Flying Scotsman line to Tokyo's modern Odakyu Electric Rail commuter line.

Players get to see the scenic countryside and cityscapes along the tracks, also taken from the lines' real environments. The conductor's voice, train engines, trips into the train yard and locomotive controls all duplicate the real thing--as much as a computer game can.

This is terrific for kids whose parents are sick of destructive games that glorify fights, injuries and death. Kids get the sense that they can control and do something productive. It's my kind of game.

I purchased Microsoft Train Simulator when it first was released (for around $40) and it is one game which will never leave my hard drive. At $9 it is a steal.

The Microsoft train simulator ia better then other train simulators out there.I think is easy to run a train. With this train simulator you can buy add-ons for it. Not like Auran's Trainz version where your stuck with the same routes over and over again. I hope this helps.

This is a very intelligent simulation, nicely done by Microsoft. Good tutorial to get you started. You'll enjoy this even if you're only remotely interested in trains.

4.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Train Simulator, January 27, 2007

It's a lot harder than you would think to move a train from station to station and this program allows you to experience many of the challanges actually encountered. Beginning at the easiest level of difficulty (to learn to operate the train and fimiliarize yourself with the track layout) and progressing to the most difficult level is much more difficult than you think. I have a great deal more respect for those responsible to move trains around the country. Yes, it could be better, but still a lot of fun and challange for young and old alike. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seems very realistic, May 16, 2006
This review is from: Train Simulator (Jewel Case) (CD-ROM)
I bought this game for my son's computer and he absolutely loves it! Seems to be very realistic and true to life (I wouldn't be able to swear on that since I don't know much about trains). I am buying this for my dad, since he is a train enthusiast as well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft train simulator Redux, February 5, 2009

I've owned MS Train simulator since it came out years ago. My original CD was swiped by someone, and for a while I went without. A few weeks ago I decided to to repurchase MS Train simulator, and after installing it, updating it, and buying a a ton of train addons and rolling stock, as well as locomotives, and routes, I have to say that this train simulator is quite a satisfying simulator that gives the end users a feel for what real railroading is like.

What is really nice about this train simulator is that you have so many choices on how you want to run your game. If you are a freight buff there are plenty of freight activities that come with the simulator itself, but there is also a galaxy of activities downloadable from train simulator sites that will keep you working your butt off into the next century. If you are a passenger train fan there is a uncountable number of passenger activities available from users all over the world worth downloading and playing. I mean the amount of content available for Microsoft train Simulator staggers the mind.

I started loving trains when I was a kid. I never knew why I liked trains I just liked them. They seem so busy and interesting. They were big and powerful. They looked really cool and they could haul tons of material all over the place through all kinds of weather. I also enjoyed the labels that they all had and the company logos that you would find on them. I loved the smell, and the noises that they would make. Train yards would be a place that I would hang out in my youth. I would hang out there for hours watching the trains work.

Microsoft train Simulator allows me to experience all of this, but this time I can be the engineer that's manipulating that train about in the yard. I can be the one engaging in switching operations, and I can be the one that drives the 127 car grain train through the stormy night for delivery. I can be the tireless, train engineer that keeps this country supplied.

I love this program and even though it is out-dated. There are still utilities that are freeware and payware that will keep this simulator going into the next decade.

Just my opinion.

I really enjoy this game, but my computer doesn't. I have Windows Vista and for some reason this program gives my system the heebie-jeebies. It does not like to load. When it does the program hesitates to follow commands. Microsoft is putting out a new Train Simulator. I trust I'll have better luck with that one.
