5.0 out of 5 stars Like you're on a train
My little boy (now 3) has loved this book from the first time I read the first verse. He is truly a train fanatic, but the rhythm of the verse creates the impression that you really are on a train. "Out in back, Clickety-clack..." is just like the chug-chug-chug.

The rhythm together with the beautiful illustrations, the imagery of the words -- this book...

3.0 out of 5 stars Train loving son.
My 2 year old is obsessed with trains. I thought this book would be a hit, but it really wasn't. I wasn't sure what tune to sing the song to, or is it a poem? He lost interest in it fast.

My little boy (now 3) has loved this book from the first time I read the first verse. He is truly a train fanatic, but the rhythm of the verse creates the impression that you really are on a train. "Out in back, Clickety-clack..." is just like the chug-chug-chug.

The rhythm together with the beautiful illustrations, the imagery of the words -- this book delivers a ride for senses. All that was missing was the sooty smell of the locomotive's smoke. Perhaps that will come in a virtual reality Train Song, some time in 2005. ;-)

4.0 out of 5 stars A great book for young train lovers---wonderful pictures!, September 4, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Train Song (Paperback)
I am not usually a fan of rhyming books, but this one was an exception. My son, who is a big train lover, has listened to it many, many times. The pictures are the best part---they really make you nostalgic for the days when trains like the ones depicted were in more common use.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unbelievable Illustrations, November 4, 2002
By A Customer
This is one of my all-time favorite children's books. The rhythmic text evokes the rhythm of a train, and the illustrations are almost eerie to me in their ability to transport me to a different place and time. I can almost hear the screen door creak, smell the smells and feel the heat as the train travels its cross country route. I also recommend "All the Places to Love", also illustrated by Mr. Wimmer. To me he has that rare ability to pull you into his paintings.

My 2 year old loves hearing this story and I love staring and the rich illustrations. This is, by far, the most beautifully illustrated book I've encountered so far. ...shopping for other Mike Wimmer-illustrated books so I can buy them all.

One of the best children's books I have read. The illustrations are wonderful. A perfect book to read to a group of children. The first book I recommend to parents or as a gift to a child.

This is a great book! My 2-1/2 year old toddler loves it and so do I! Its fun to read - the book flows nicely with fun rhyming lyrics. The illustrations are also nice too. Great for the train lover or anyone! Truck Song, by Siebert is also a family favorite. If you like Truck Song, you will love this book too!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun book for a railrod fan, September 14, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Train Song (Paperback)
This is a very nice, impressionistic look at railroading, with a bonus: much of the artwork is of my hometown of Norman, Oklahoma. I used to wait for trains at some of these places.
