As to be likely expected of any Official DreamWorks product, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON 2 is extremely polished, graphics intensive application. So intensive that it may cause hiccups (and I don't mean the Viking hero). It actually froze up on my Samsung Tab 3, the first time anything has done that.

● Permissions and Privacy

Beyond the Network + Device State/ID, the permission that may cause the most concern is Receive Messaging via Amazon's Messenger Service. There is no Social Media or Adware per se, but the game does have a code module called PushWoosh that allows Non-Ad Push Notifications. I can't see in what ultimate form this takes, but I assume it is game related. I'll keep the game on my tablet until I can see what this Push looks like.

I did read Cupcake Digital's Privacy Policy, and it's very clear cut concerning not collecting personal information beyond anonymous device statistics concerning the application itself. The sincerity of the Privacy Policy does convince me that overall, this is a SAFE game

● Advertising

There is a rather extensive More Apps section, "locked" behind a laughable Year of Birth prompt, but it's at least something. The second Parental section also contains additional resources, help, and an email newsletter registration.

● Gameplay

Four activities: Storybook with Narration and "follow along" word highlighting, Coloring Book that is quite varied, and two arcade games. The Coloring Book is robust with all manner of colors, brush types, and even stickers. It also features a "snap to" aspect to help youngsters keep within the lines (although it's not foolproof as I foolishly proved :p ).

5.0 out of 5 stars This requires more than i can fit in a review July 1, 2014

It is filed with multiple cartoon-ish games and puzzles. The graphics are outstanding! It's more than just one type of game. I have deleted so many dragon games. This actually has a narrated comic book story you can listen to and page through...if you can't pronounce a word or a character name, you can just tap on the dialogue to hear it said again.

It has a coloring book! You can select the characters and paint them from a color palette, and somehow keeps you inside the lines (although it's not always perfect)....now how cool is that?

It has different dragon games to choose from. It is so much in one game, it is nearly impossible to review it as a single game app. Your kids will spend endless hours with this single download, and you adults will too! I will shut up now...I doubt you will delete this dragon-fest of fun.

3.0 out of 5 stars Privacy Issues + PUSH; Pretty Good App Otherwise July 1, 2014

WHY does DreamWorks need to know what accounts you have on your device? Why does this app - targeted to children - need to have its developer send messages?

It's pretty large, too, at 58.8MB installed.

Still, it is very attractive, with excellent stereo sounds.

The app does end instantly with the back button (be aware of this, as you might not want it exiting that fast with young ones, unless you constantly want to restart it for them again. And again.)

Young children will really like the coloring and the storytelling, and the older kids will like the Dragon Hunters "Hogan's Alley" game and the Dragon Racing.

The coloring part app is EXCELLENT except for two things: 1) There are only SIX pages! 2) Because the back button instantly closes, your child's beautiful art goes away permanently without being saved. If you want to save it, you have to pull down the tiny arrow in the upper left, and choose the camera. Incidentally, this is also where the UNDO is hiding. They also get saved if you return to the Pages or the Menu.

The Dragon Hunters has three hardness settings and three playing arenas, and the play gets progressively harder, with the third level having infinite hunters to shoot.

The racing is very challenging, at least to start. Your child will spend quite a bit of time practicing. You do get to choose whether you want to ride Toothless or Stormfly. You also try to collect sheep and deliver them to the finish line. So, it's a pretty engaging game for older kids. Younger kids are not going to like it, though.

Both the Dragon Hunters and the Dragon Racing do have high score boards, so it can be shared between siblings or friends.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Great game:) June 11, 2014

This is the best how to train your Dragon game so far!!! There are two types of games to play in this wonderful app. One is Dragon Racing where you have to get as many sheep as you can especially the black sheep. The second game is Dragon Hunting where you protect Berk from Dragon Hunters. I hope you enjoy this game as much as I do.

2.0 out of 5 stars Soft navigation buttons in the way July 1, 2014

Not much usability as navigation buttons are constantly shown. This way, the back button is easy to press, not only that but on exit, the app goes completely out of memory thus loosing all progress.

Yet another spy program seeking private and personal information that is completely unnecessary for its advertised operation. Why is the author seeking: "Access the list of accounts in the Accounts Service"

Why does an Official Storybook App need to know what other accounts you have?

And yes requiring this private information in a normally paid for app is spying, as this private information has nothing to do with playing or the general operation of a Storybook App.

Spyware is spyware and does not belong in a game/app that the seller is charging the end user a fee to own. I can somewhat understand greedy programmers putting sypware in free games, but once you start charging a fee for a game/app, all spyware should be removed. Ratings will suffer for those greedy programmers who insist on putting sypware in paid games/apps. Fair warning!!!

game won't open
I get this problem as well on Kindle Fire HD 7. Sometimes if we go back to HOME and try opening again, it opens fine but other times, we keep getting the Content 3D not available error (long red bar across the screen).

I even deleted the app and reinstalled it but it still does it. ... Read More
