Editorial Reviews

Review

"My recipe for a great lesson design is two parts content development and one part Trainer’s Handbook.  I always find something I can use in this great, and much used, reference book."
—Steve Sugar, coauthor, Games That Boost Performance

"From the initial needs assessment right on through to final evaluation, Karen Lawson's newest book has it all! You'll learn from a ‘master’ of our trade. Karen's pragmatic approach to this ever-changing field will clearly enhance and enliven your next training program."
—Edward E. Scannell, past National president, ASTD, and coauthor, Games Trainers Play series

From the Back Cover

This thoroughly revised and updated second edition of The Trainer's Handbook presents a comprehensive, systematic approach to developing training skills and competencies. It reflects the current changes in the design, development, and delivery of training that will meet the needs of today's learner, distance learning, and performance consulting. The book offers a fresh focus on evaluation, includes practical how-to guidance, and a wealth of illustrative real-life examples.

The Trainer's Handbook walks readers step-by-step through the training process and contains tips on assessing the needs of participants, keeping training learner-centered, incorporating activities into training, selecting audiovisual aids, and closing sessions creatively. As practical as it is instructive, the guide is filled with worksheets, checklists, and assessments—reproducible on the accompanying CD-ROM—that are designed to be flexible so trainers can plan their own paths to success.

The book is organized in handy module format that progressively builds on knowledge in much the same way that effective training does. Like the first edition, this updated version of The Trainer's Handbook is an ideal resource for anyone in a full-time, professional training position who has little or no formal background in training others. It is also an important text for experienced trainers who want to learn new tips and techniques that will enhance their current skills and help them deliver on-target training that meets individual as well as organizational needs.

"From the initial needs assessment right on through to final evaluation, Karen Lawson's newest book has it all! You'll learn from a 'master' of our trade. Karen's pragmatic approach to this ever-changing field will clearly enhance and enliven your next training program. Just do it!"

An exellent book... July 17, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I've got this book as a reference for the course I'm taking in school of public health. I got it and I finished it in 3-4 days. An excellent book, very easy to read and follow. Excellent surveys and very usefull points. I highly recommend this book for whoever that thinks (s)he want to become a teacher, a trainer and above all trains the trainer.
As a medical resident, I used lessons I've learned from this book and the result was excellent. I'm looking for other books written by the author.
