5.0 out of 5 stars This book revitalized my training workshops!, March 4, 2009
This review is from: Training From the Back of the Room!: 65 Ways to Step Aside and Let Them Learn (Paperback)
Sharon Bowman's latest masterpiece, "Training from the BACK of the Room" came just in the nick of time. I'm planning a series of leadership workshops for a major client and I know that I need to get my training participants more involved in their learning. Sharon provides a comprehensive (but understandable) overview of adult learning principles and then proceeds to provide trainers of all skill levels with fun ideas to truly elevate the learning process.

The best part about adopting Sharon's philosophies of training from the BACK of the room, is that my STRESS LEVEL as a trainer has decreased dramatically! I don't have to be the "sage on the stage" anymore!

My training evaluations have always been very good, but I know Sharon's latest book is going to vastly improve the learning experience for all participants while simultaneously allowing me the freedom enjoy the sessions by their side. That's what I call a "win-win"!

Thanks Sharon, for your abundance mentality in sharing your wisdom with other facilitators. I can't wait to see what you write next!

4.0 out of 5 stars Loved it!, June 6, 2010

I was looking for ways to change up my presentation style and techniques. I don't develop the presentation materials that I use to train...but they can be boring for me and my participants - they know what to expect all the time, because it is always the same. I was able to use some of the ideas instantly in the very next training class I did. I liked the versitility and the participants loved the change! I even persuaded a teammate to try the book, and now we are both experimenting and finding new techniques that fit our style, our training.

As a National Training Manager for a large financial services organization, I was thrilled to find this book, an easy to use and reference guide that is current and readily adaptable to both functional and soft skill training. My Trainers use several of the instructional strategies as our "standard" for delivering. In particular, the Interactive Lecture games are easy to adapt and use. BUY THIS BOOK!

5.0 out of 5 stars This book will change your perspective!, May 11, 2010
This review is from: Training From the Back of the Room!: 65 Ways to Step Aside and Let Them Learn (Paperback)
This book really helps to change your perspective towards learning. I have read several books on adult learning but this one really convinced me to let the students learn by talking with each other. I used several of these techniques in a recent class and the students loved it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Life changing - for you and your students!, April 7, 2010

This review is from: Training From the Back of the Room!: 65 Ways to Step Aside and Let Them Learn (Paperback)
I am a professional trainer and coach primarily in the software industry. I'm always on the lookout for new and better ways to train adults because it is what I do for a living. While looking for something to read on my Kindle I stumbled across this book and decided to give it a read. Only one word can describe my reaction as I was reading - WOW! The techniques in this book are simple, effective and fun. I have now facilitated several courses using the provided techniques and not only did the courses get even better reviews from attendees (and I had always received great reviews) I had a LOT more fun facilitating the classes.

This book is truly life changing for me as I suspect it will be for others. The techniques seem odd at times, but the ones I have used have been extremely effective. Class participants engage in ways I never thought possible.

I don't think I have ever written a review on Amazon before, but this one is worthy of high praise so I took the plunge!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book, September 21, 2009

The book outlines several methods of getting those involved during your class.

None of these are brand new ideas, but the books coalesces the participation idea, down to a science.

You must have the right attitude for this type of training, because you can lose control easily in the course of your lecture, if you don't first get your audiences attention and interest.
