Book Description

February 1, 2000 Barron's
More and more dog trainers are using head halters as the most effective and humane way to correct canine behavior problems. The author explains how, despite appearances, head halters are not muzzles. Head halters teach through logic, and allow dogs more freedom and comfort than regular training devices. The author goes on to discuss the basics of good training--praise, patience, and persistence, how to make your dog sit at attention, walk on a leash, obey verbal and hand commands, behave inside the home, and ultimately--behave and enjoy the outdoors without need for collar and leash restraints. Approximately 80 full-color photos.

More About the Author

Miriam Fields-Babineau was able to speak to animals before she could speak to people. From her early years of communicating with cats and horses, to eventually connecting with canines and exotic creatures, her life had to be centered around animals.

Ms. Fields-Babineau began training animals professionally in 1978. In 1981 she graduated from the University of Maryland with degrees in Psychology and Zoology. In 1983 she opened the doors of Training Unlimited Animal Training and Animal Actors, Inc. offering instruction in animal communication to pet owners and providing trained animals for media productions.

Since 1985 she has published 37 pet books, several short stories, 2 novels, numerous magazine and newspaper articles and currently writes web content for 4 websites. She also designs and develops pet training tools, fanciful collars and harnesses.

In 2005, her dream of creating a luxury pet retreat bore fruit. Shady Mountain Pet Retreat offers luxury accommodations and training for dogs and cats in the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

Her love of animals continues to grow and she goes horseback riding every chance she gets.

This review is from: Dog Training with a Head Halter (Paperback)
Ms. Fields-Babineau has clearly outlined the use of a head halter as a training tool for use with dogs of any temperament, size, and breed. Following her easy to understand guidance, even a brand new pet owner can acheive success in obedience training. The reader gets the feeling of sitting down to a one-on-one conversation with the author without the book being preachy. Ms. Fields-Babineau has done an excellent job of compiling a lot of information into a format that is easy to follow and even easier to use.
