Book Description

April 1, 2007

John “The Penguin” Bingham’s witty, honest, and inspirational “Chronicles” column in Runner’s World has been the clarion call for a phenomenal surge of new runners. He has been called “the Pied Piper of the second running boom.” He and co-author Jenny Hadfield tirelessly promote the idea that any running is good running, and that just waddling along can save you—body, mind, and soul. Running brings joy and fitness and a better life.

Bingham and Hadfield’s Marathoning for Mortals sells 30,000 copies a year. Now, Training for Mortals will join that book in the pantheon of indispensable books for runners. This logbook motivates runners of all levels and records their progress—both as athletes and in developing a more satisfying life through fitness. It is full of training tips and inspirational bits of running wisdom, with ample space and format to record the details of each day’s workout(s). Designed with fifty-two weekly spreads, it can be started at any point in any year.

John Bingham and Jenny Hadfield live in Chicago and run a race management company in addition to doing their writing, speaking, and coaching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great programs tailored for the "mortal" runner, September 16, 2007
This review is from: Training for Mortals: A Runner's Logbook and Source of Inspiration (Spiral-bound)
Last year, I trained and ran a half marathon. Injured myself in the process by going too far too soon - plantar fasciitis. This time I am (hopefully) wiser and going slower with my training this time around. Thank goodness for the practical advice and programs offered in this book. I am following the full marathon program offered for running/walking. So far, so good. This book is a read and follow for any planning on running, walking or running/walking a long distance race!

The style and storytelling abilties of John "The Penguin" Bingham is second to none. If you're a new runner of someone coming back after a long lay-off, this is the book that can get you started on the right foot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Train train away!!!!, January 22, 2010

I love the training journal. It is the first one that even allows me to keep track of all the running "stuff" but my food portions. It is 1 year long so you can start any time and go for 52 weeks. It has a great overview with place for goals and races you may want to try. Since I am starting over with run/walk at 65 it is revenant for any age. I only have good kudos' for it. Enjoy if you buy one. It does go with their book which I am also using.
