5.0 out of 5 stars Great Drill Book
If you're looking for drills to improve you or your athletes speed, agility, or quickness- look no further.

The book starts out with a short chapter on preparing for the drills followed by another short chapter on "needs analysis" (which shows you how to evaluate the need for a speed, agility, and quickness program).

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for a coach
I thought this book was great for coaching athletes and putting together specific groupings of exercises to work on specific skills. The challenge though was that I bought it for myself and thought it would help me design something to help my triathlon speed. I'm thinking it requires a higher degree of background knowledge than I have at this point.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Drill Book, September 29, 2008
If you're looking for drills to improve you or your athletes speed, agility, or quickness- look no further.

The book starts out with a short chapter on preparing for the drills followed by another short chapter on "needs analysis" (which shows you how to evaluate the need for a speed, agility, and quickness program).

The rest of the book from there is the "meat" of the book: three sections of drills, one for speed, one for agility, and one for quickness. Each of these sections is loaded with great pictures of the drills along with the purpose of the drill and an explanation of how to do it.

The book ends with a 6th Chapter on sport-specific programs. Here the reader is given routines for all the different sports such as volleyball, karate, baseball, etc.

All-in-all I found this to be a very nice resource for drills- drills for really just about any sport. To boot, the size of the book is such that you can toss it in a gym bag and take it with you. Other sports resources I liked include The 5-Minute Plantar Fasciitis Solution if you suffer from plantar fasciitis. Happy training!

No need to spend valuable time searching your files for various drills any longer. These coaches have placed drills into separate categories for our convenience. The combination of old and new drills will make your conditioning sessions more enjoyable for the athletes, and will certainly meet the training objectives of any coaching staff. There is a section which has sample programs that will give athletes, parents, and coaches solid advice on how to develop and organize a SAQ program that can be tailored specifically to fit individual needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great help for improving base performance, March 7, 2001

We purchased the book a few weeks ago and since using the program my daughter is a new person. After learning the basic skills in each of the three categories: speed, agility and quickness, she has increased both her performance and attitude. She is working on her volleyball skills and is improving her reflexes. She really enjoys the drills. She has been practicing some of the rolls and moves even when she is not working out.

The guidance is what she really needed and has really helped her athleticism.

This is a pretty good book.

Book covers several hundred excercises divided into
the categories related to what each excercise targets - improvements in speed, agility or quickness. There is also a set of chapters describing what
each of these (speed, agility, quickness) really mean in the sports context,
and what affects their development.

At the end of the book there is a training program, and there is also a speed, agility and quickness training program designed specifically for most of the popular sports (did not find cricket or polo).

I would recommend taking a look at this book - specially if you are competition minded, or if you are a coach.

I also think that book is relatively inexpensive for what you get.

This book provides the most comprehensive list of drills for speed and agility that I've seen yet. The included DVD which contains examples on how to perform some of the drills is nice also. The book & DVD are a great value. Here are my pros:

1.comprehensive number of drills
2.nice photos
3.DVD
4.example training programs provided for many sports

Here are my cons:

1.Lacks certain details for the beginner or non coach. Before beginning a program for improving speed, agility & quickness, the book strongly recommends an assessment of your current levels of strength, movement and fitness needs. The book provides what exercises should be performed to assess your current levels, but I wish norms or metrics would have been provided for the assessment exercises. If I must perform single-leg body weight squats to assess my functional strength, how many must I perform to determine whether my strength is adequate or deficient? This is not provided. Page 16 provides all of the assessment exercises, but they all lack the metrics or norms for acheivement.

2.As comprehensive the list of drills are, I found that some of the descriptions on how to perform the drills were lacking. Only a single photo is provided along with a relatively short description on how to perform the drill. There are many drills that just can't be adequately described through written instructions. This is insufficient when proper technique and form is essential to performing the drills. I found myself going to Youtube for videos on some of these drills.

3.With number 2 being said, the DVD should have had videos of all of the drills contained in this book. It only has 66 of the 195 drills.

Besides those deficiencies, I still think this is an excellent resource and provides all the drills I would ever need for tennis training. I give 4/5 stars for the 3 cons mentioned above.

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Training Tool! A Very Good Value!, January 7, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book and companion DVD are fabulous training tools for any sport requiring speed, quickness and agility. The materials are well organized and very illustrative, allowing you to customize a program for your individual needs. I've read other books like this and have been left wondering sometimes what to do, but these materials are clear and easy to utilize. Whether you're an athlete or a coach, this small investment will pay big dividends.

As a graduate student in the field and a competetive division 1 NCAA volleyball player, I found this book to be a great reference for improving my speed, agility and quickness. The pictures, explanations and DVD made it easy to incorperate proper form into each drill.
I would feel comfortable referring this book to anyone who wants to improve their game regardless of their sport or level of experience.
This is a great book, one that I will keep in my library forever.

5.0 out of 5 stars Interested in SAQ Training, Buy This Book First!, February 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I bought this book for ideas on helping my soccer team train their speed. As it turns out, this book is by far the best book that I own for developing SAQ (Speed, Agility, and Quickness).

Pros:
- The book not only covers the topics in general, but it also gives sub-categories like plyometric exercises for speed and agility ladder drills for agility.
- Clear and easy to read. Each exercise is listed separately with step-by-step instructions and a clear picture or graphic. Also, there is a DVD included which actually shows many of the exercises demonstrated clearly with narrated instructions.
- Good variety of drills/exercises
- Excellent for use in any sport and also includes several training plans for selected sports.
- Currently only $15 for the book AND DVD!

Cons:
- I don't know if there are any. This is truly an excellent book!

5.0 out of 5 stars A most if you're a trainer, coach, etc., September 30, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
What if you can find a book that gives you the basics and the better moves for training your athletes in speed, agility, quickness, and more (balance and reaction time)...? Well here you are! Even better, it's ordered by every ability, numbered, b/w pictures or diagrams (and a DVD that gives very detailed info on the exercises), very well explained and the most important: scientific! Meaning: proved results! Two very distinguish authors and also very known for their knowledge in the area.
