This book sets a new standard for training,
This review is from: Training at the Speed of Life, Vol. 1: The Definitive Textbook for Police and Military Reality Based Training (Paperback)
This book is exactly as advertised ... THE definitive textbook on the subject of military and law enforcement training. I have attended Mr. Murray's dynamic presentations and was impressed ... but the book blew me away. It is so comprehensively filled with useful information that I wore out two highlighters. The material is essential for police and military trainers, but is equally useful for armed citizens and non-training types. After reading this book you will change the way you both look at training and undertake training. In our agency, we had been using various forms of Reality Based Training for years - by all accounts we were experts in the field. It was amazing to learn how much we DIDN'T know about how to conduct safe and realistic training. Mr. Murray's honest and straight forward approach to this topic is refreshing, entertaining and enlightening. At nearly 400 pages, it's not exactly a recreational read, but the material is so compelling that it's a hard book to put down. In my agency it has become mandatory reading for all training staff, and we have purchased additional copies for the rank and file. By allowing them to understand exactly why we are doing the things we are during a training session, the officers arrive for training with an open mind and ready to fully participate in the training.
The CD that accompanies the book is a HUGE time saver when it comes time to develop scenarios, in fact the CD itself is well worth more than the price of the book. All in all, this is probably the most valuable book on my shelf and is filled with information that is likely to remain fresh for the years to come. Buy this book.

Five Stars Doesn't Give This Book Justice!!!!!,

If you are a serious hands-on police instructor, street cop, or an open minded law enforcement professional, you will need to get your hands on this book. Ken Murray is a the cutting edge, and I'm sure that a few dinosaurs will feel very threatened by his facinating approach to training. He's caused me to re-think and modify much of what I do. This is a must have book. If you know someone who can benefit from what Murray says, you'll do them a big favor by giving them a gift of this book. I'm just anxiously anticipting what Ken Murray has in store with Volume #2.

This review is from: Training at the Speed of Life, Vol. 1: The Definitive Textbook for Police and Military Reality Based Training (Paperback)
This book is a welcome addition to any trainer involved in police or military force on force training. Mr. Murray has a depth of knowledge in this subject that is excellent. The book covers more than just the use of Sim and should set the standard for training safely when using marking cartridges.

Train the trainer at its best,

This review is from: Training at the Speed of Life, Vol. 1: The Definitive Textbook for Police and Military Reality Based Training (Paperback)
Ken Murray has put together a superb product here. I've been training soldiers for the better part of 18 years and there is still much to learn from Ken Murray's definitive guide. He presents his teachable points in a clear dialogue with the reader. It's also an enjoyable read as he mixes zen teachings with movie quotes on the same pages. The best compliment I can pay to this work is the fact that I have purchased copies in bulk to give to my squadron officers and soldiers to take their training to the next level. I've also asked Mr. Murray to come train my soldiers in his reality-based training techniques because I believe strongly in what he has to say. I look forward to volumes 2 and beyond.

A comprehensive book on reality based training for law enforcement and military people.,
By
This review is from: Training at the Speed of Life, Vol. 1: The Definitive Textbook for Police and Military Reality Based Training (Paperback)
Those who are law enforcement officers or military people are involved in the warrior professions. This book is so full of valuable information that this short review could never do this volume justice. The author is well known in the law enforcement and military fields. His lectures are both entertaining and educational. This book covers in depth such areas as liability reduction, training accidents, psychological aspects of deadly force, the problem with conventual training methods, reality based training procedures, ensuring a winning mind-set, training weapons and ammunition and much, much more. This book should be in every police trainers personal library.
Rating: 5 stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: The Monadnock Defensive Tactics System, MDTS).

This is a must read/own book for those invovled in reality based training (RBT). One of the best training components/tools for law enforcement/military is RBT, however, as "sexy" and as exciting as RBT seems, it is critical that training personnel understand the responsiblity for providing efficient, effective, SAFE!!! training. Kenneth Murray's book covers the major facets of RBT and how to execute safe and productive traininig.
Though I have not had the pleasure of attending Murray's training sessions via Armiger Police Training Institute, I did complete Simunition's training certification. There is no question that the fundamentals regarding SAFETY and goal oriented training detailed in Murray's book are universal. If you are a firearms/defensive tactics instructor, you definitely need to read and own this book.

RBT saftey and more,
By
This review is from: Training at the Speed of Life, Vol. 1: The Definitive Textbook for Police and Military Reality Based Training (Paperback)
I can honestly say this is one of the most complete RBT books I have touched to date. Every aspect of saftey is covered. I'm actually reading it for the third time now and still collecting more information I missed the first 2 rounds. It is not the complete be all of a RBT program but it is a must as part of your RBT library.

This book is a must for Police and Military personnel. My husband is a Lieutenant with the Sheriff's Department and loved this book. He marked several things that he is using to train other law enforcement officers. We also ordered the book for my brother in law who is in law enforcement. Amazon recommended this book and they were exactly right. We ordered from Amazon and received the book in a very timely manner so we ordered it again fro my bother in law from Amazon for Christmas. Thank you Amazon.com for the recommendation!

This is a great book at RBT and also a lot of fun to read. Being a simulator engineer it gives me a good understanding of the customer (police, military) side. I am looking forward to the second volume.
On the downside the book lacks structure - not in the content but in the formatting. Shallow table of context (no numbering of titles, no visual hierarchy of titles, no Index).
