4.0 out of 5 stars The future of hard music.
Do you like Vision of Disorder or Carcass? Well these two bands would definitely be in your vein of music. The CD opens with Training For Utopia playing "Modus Operandi." In the first 1 min. 30 sec. they flex their extreme music muscle before settling into the first verse which is very reminisent of Coal Chamber. The tempo is then picked up again throughout...

2.0 out of 5 stars seems i'm the only one who doesn't really like this...
I can't stand this EP. Seriously. Zao is one of my favorite bands, and their output on this disc is so-so. On it we've got the original "Skin Like Winter", which is full of energy but the production is sloppy. I prefer the version on Liberate te ex Inferis. Zao's "Walk on by, Walk on Me" is awesome, and I have no complaints about this track. Now - Training for...

The tempo is then picked up again throughout the rest of the song. The song finishes with Maven(Vocals,Guitar) repeatedly yelling "Liar, liar, liar, liar, liar!" Zao plays a song called "Skin Like Winter". Very harmonious guitars mixed with shrill vocals the songs lyrics are very thoughtful but easy to memorize and pretty soon you find yourself singing along with Daniel(Vocals). The third song and in my opinion the gem of this disc from TFU is "Police John, Police Red." This song is an all time classic. It varries in speed and they even sing at the beginning. At over 7 minutes this isn't a short song. The lyrics and music mix perfectly. It ends with the chant/scream "Come Armegeddon, Come Armegeddon!" The closing piece by Zao is called "Walk on by,Walk on me." Its lyrics deal with the effects the tongue can have when not used wisely. The song fades out to a double kick peddle, grooving guitars, and the lyrics "The tongue creates its tongue creates its tongue..."

5.0 out of 5 stars Two Great Bands, June 12, 2001
This review is from: Training for Utopia / Zao (The Split EP) (Audio CD)
I first heard the Training for Utopia singer perform with ZAO live. I was more than amazed. Just Zao alone is enough to make a great concert but together it was amazing. If you like either, or both of the bands like I now do, pick this up, it hardly costs anything and it has some great music on there. ENJOY

5.0 out of 5 stars awesome, July 29, 2000

This review is from: Training for Utopia / Zao (The Split EP) (Audio CD)
I usually don't buy split eps, this being my first split, it seemed as though the only one out there worth getting, being that i love ZAO, and Training For Utopia is one of my favorite bands also. Well, i must say that the Training for Utopia songs are pretty good, very insane, which is something you've gotta come to expect from TFU, buy their first cd and you'll know what i mean. THE zao songs are awesome, Skin Like Winter also appears on Zao's current cd Liberate Te Ex INferis, it is much better on Liberate. But either way, it is one of the best zao songs ever, and even cooler, the TFU vocalist does vocals on this version. But WAlk ON By, Walk on ME (the Pianist Prophecy) is the best song on this cd. It is just very very heavy. The beginning sounds really "sick". YOu'll know what i mean, it is just awesome, you can't really say that anything done by zao is bad, they are pretty much my favorite band. THis cd is definately worth it, if you don't like TFU, then just get it for the Zao songs, but all songs are recommended, TFU is a great band too.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE BEST SPLIT CD OF ALL TIME, July 11, 2000

This CD is so awesome that I'm still not sick of it and I've had it for a year and a half. All four songs are awesome. "Skin Like Winter" which is also on "liberate te ex fernis" is the best song on the album. It stars out by ashes to ashes dust to dust, (which is a steal from a Point of Recognition song, j.k.) makes you want to yell along with Daniel (lead singer). The best TFU song is defintly "police john, police red" even though these guys sobesly are not Christian, the end of the song is awesome, when you here yells of "Come Armeggedon, Come Armeggodon" over and over again. This is far and beyond the best Split EP CD of all time.

This review is from: Training for Utopia / Zao (The Split EP) (Audio CD)
Well, I've seen zao three times in the past two years and they are the most intense live show ever...Training for utopia, however, I haven't seen, but I'm sure they are tight as well.....If you want insane metal/hardcore with a dash of melody, get it! Four brutal cuts from two great bands!
