5.0 out of 5 stars For Rottie and Rottie-mix Owners, a *Must Have* Book!
Barb McNinch is not only an excellent professional trainer, she is also an outstanding Rottie person. Do you want to have a puddle or a Rottweiler?
I've bought a few basic books about Rottweiler to teach my dog the basics. I am very happy to say that I have a wonderful puddle, not a Rottweiler! He is a wonderful companion dog (for old ladies), not aggressive, very sociable,...etc. Do not "abuse" your dog, don't kick him, don't make him be scared of you...etc...

In this book, McNinch goes far beyond a basic, generic training book and presents the reader with a training program tailormade to the Rottweiler. Readers of this book will come away with a much deeper understanding and appreciation for their Rottweilers, as well as the ability to train their puppies and dogs to truly be good canine citizens. I would highly recommend this book to Rottie owners, as well as owners of Rottie mixes. If the Rottie-mix has taken on any characteristics of the Rottweiler, this book will be of great help.

5.0 out of 5 stars Barb McNinch KNOWS Rottweilers Are SPECIAL!, August 21, 2000
A Rottweiler is a VERY special breed of dog! It takes intelligence, patience and dedication to train and love one! And the REWARDS are phenomenal. Barb McNinch has demonstrated that she has all THREE of the above qualities and shares them in her book, "Training Your Rottweiler". Her experience with the breed SHINES THROUGH in print! Not only are her training and problem solving tips extremely useful and SPECIFIC to the breed, but she also clearly outlines and explains the wide variety of activities that Rottweiler owners can engage in with their dogs. This book is VERY MUCH worth the purchase price! And we are EAGERLY waiting for her NEXT BOOK!!! <g>

I bought this book in preparation for purchasing my new Rottweiler pup. And I must say, it has prepared me. The book is well illustrated and easy to understand. My rating is Brilliant! A big thanks to the author. Training your Rottweiler covers so much: What to look for when buying a pup, character and personality traits of Rottweilers, Children and Rottweilers, Socialising your pup, Training methods and tools, etc. The list goes on. In my personal opinion - If you are a prospective Rottweiler owner and want information... this is the book for you. Thanks Barbara for a great book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive and Thoughtful, October 2, 2001

This book handles with clarity the challenging job of training a rottweiler. These are dogs of great intelligence and strength - a wonderful combination when properly directed. Ms. McNinch puts what could seem like a daunting task into completely understandable training plans for your dog. I own 12 rottweilers and know that well trained they are a wonderful gift, untrained they can be powerful gremlins with the power to think. This book makes the training a do-able task - which should result in less throw-a-way rotties, lost because of lack of knowledge.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very informative and easy to read, January 28, 2008
By
This book has very brief and to the point chapters. I have owned dogs for over 20 years but this book gave good insight to why particular behaviors occur and how to modify the behavior. This book offers practical training and obediance methods that even beginner dog owners can follow and understand.

We got a rottweiller from the shelter. He is a year old, and this book is definately geared toward puppies, and purebred rotties. Useful information though.

I am thoroughly impressed and completely satisfied with this book. I bought it based on customer reviews and they were right. It is very good at specifically describing many of the nuances of Rottweilers. Don't let anyone tell you... "all breeds are the same it's just the way you train them." Most rotts have similar tendencies. This book was very helpful in preparing me for each stage.
