Just a short review to let people know where to find this album. This wonderful collaboration between Ian McKaye and the Ministry boys has been reprinted on the new Ministry reissue called "Side Trax". Just search Amazon for "Side Trax" and you'll find this album. I hope this helps!

This is the album I pull out and lend to friends when it seems like they need some unexpected joy in their lives. The music here is EXACTLY what you'd expect from an Ian McKaye and Al Jourgeson duo. You can immediately pick out their respective offerings. Very distinct, very individual. And yet it's something entirely new. Think peanut butter and jelly. Both their own thing by their own rights, but together, they form perfection.

And, I almost never use sexual terms when describing music, but this is one of the few times that I do. "I Will Refuse" is simply ORGASMIC.

Thank you, Amazon, for helping me find this after all these years. What an intense album! Despite some production values and EQ of the late 80's sounding a bit dated, the music rings true and the lyric just cuts to the quick. This one album alone is worth the entire rest of the Ministry catalogue, and no Ian Mckaye/Fugazi fan should be without it either. NIN and industrial fans should also pick it up.

Amongst all of the Ministry side products, Pailhead stands head and shoulders above the rest.Ian sounds great with the rest of the M boys. It's cool that Al steps back and lets someone else front for a while. If you like Fugazi, Minor Threat, or Ministry. You'll love this! Its two great tastes that go great together! I can't believe this recording is 10 years old! I just popped it into my CD player again tonight for the first time in years and it still gives me a rush! Literally. It made my hairs stand on end just like the first time I listened to it. This came out when I was an angry young college student...now I'm in my 30s and have even more to be really angry about and dammit if this doesn't make me feel validated. Girls and boys of the Limp Bizkit generation, turn that crap off and listen to Sirs Mackaye, Jourgensen and Barker and they'll show you how to put that aggression to good use. Crank it up, clear the floor and find someone to slamdance with - er, that would be 'moshing' these days right? Or just slap the headphones on and enjoy the assault, but I dare you to try to sit still. This is one of my "desert-island" CDs. Don't know why I ever put it away but it's out to stay now. And to reiterate others, I would almost take away half a star for it's brevity and for the boys' lack of follow-up, but I just don't have the heart. I'm just thankful a disc like this was ever made.

This is one of those collaborations that pretty much sounds like just what it is. Ian McKaye of Fugazi fronting Ministry. As a longtime fan of both bands just the thought is exciting. The songs are too. Basically just a 6 track Ep, it's enough...but not too much. Trait is a real sound of the times. I'm not sure I can sell this any better than telling you who's involved.

This entire release and more is also found on the Ministry collection "Side Trax". Can't confirm that it's remastered, but it might be more for your money.

THE CRUSHING SOUNDS OF DISTORTION MIXED WITH VOCALS UNDENIABLY PERFECTED DURING NUMEROUS UNDERGROUND PERFORMANCES HAVE MADE A PIECE OF HISTORY HERE. i bought this a while ago and really wasn't into it, but i've been getting more and more into lately. part of the reason why i gave it a second chance is because ian is absolutely my favorite vocalist ever. he's not the best vocalist ever, but he's f***ing awesome.

anyway, into the review part of this. this is super monotonous, but in a really good foot tapping sort of way. i was never very into ministry and i think that this sounds nothing at all like anything al has ever done. this is definately a complete about face for ian.

"man should surrender" absolutely had to have been the groundwork for QOTSA's "feel good hit of the summer" and there is nothing wrong with that as both songs are pretty damn good.

for anyone that is a fan of embrace, fugazi, ministry, queens of the stone age, etc.

it's definately not the best thing in the world, but if you let it grow on you you'll find yourself bringing it with you in the car all the time.

When Ian Mckay says "I'm F**kin' Ready!" at the beginning of I Will Refuse you can almost picture a slugfest in the studio where this was recorded. While I'm sure that there was no animosity between Mr McKay and Mr Jorgenson, the tension on the recording is thick enough to cut with a knife. These two are in full power on this album. Politically charged and never at a loss for good musical ideas. The fact that it is too short only makes it better; it leaves you wanting more. It is a must for any Underground/Indusrial library.

well if you are out there doing some research for some of the industrial classics this is not one to pass buy.this is the minisrty /ian mackayee project right before fugazi started and minisrty went to a more brutal direction.so to start this is full of great grooves and guitar bass lines to mosh around the room.lots of experimental samples and noise to put ys in a trace for weeks,its kind of more punk with attitude than most of the industrial albums that are around but if you like a mixture of punk meets industrial .you will dig it i kind of wish more bands mixed the styles and experimented as well as these two did ..so long ago..
