Book Description

July 7, 2008
Newly arrived in Devon, England, American Nara Winfield is furious when her secret love, Dan, turns out to be Rolfe Daniels, the person who will inherit Winfield Hall after her father dies. She'll never forgive the dashing man for his masquerade--though his kisses are hard to forget. But is there a more direct heir to the estate than Rolfe? That possibility arrives by way of a man from Singapore. Her father immediately sets sail to find and claim his son by his first wife--who died in Singapore long ago, with their son supposedly dying with her. Because her mother, not over her illness from their long voyage to England, refuses to get on a ship ever again, Nara leaves with her father instead, and is shocked to find Rolfe aboard. After her father dies mysteriously on the ship, Nara, alone in Singapore, plunges into immediate deceit and danger. Can she trust anyone? Certainly not Rolfe! But then why does she long for more of his kisses?

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't waste your time on this one, January 18, 2001
By
This review is from: Traitor's Kiss (Paperback)
I hate writing negative reviews - especially historical romances (personal favorite genre). But unfortunately, this story is just not worh your time or the paper it was printed on. Bottom line - it's BORING. Nothing really happens and the plot isn't at all unique. It's the same old: They start as rivals and wind up lovers formula. One line that definitely turned me off of this book was: "The slightly acrid scent of bird droppings mingled with the flowers' perfume." I like getting into a story and actually feeling as if I'm experiencing it through the characters' eyes -- but bird droppings? Did I really need that info?

I struggled to get through it, but I managed to finish it. But sadly, the only memorable thing about it was the bird droppings - and that is something I'd rather forget.

2.0 out of 5 stars 1st half of book was so BORING..., July 25, 2004
This review is from: Traitor's Kiss (Paperback)
The first half of this book was very boring & you wouldn't have even known you were reading a romance book. Right from the beginning you are wonering if Nara & "Dan" made love. It didn't appear that way but they commented that they did & I kept looking back thinking 'did I miss something'. I was really confused. The majority of this book takes place in Singapore looking for a half-bother. I didn't have a clue what the author was talking about when describing things in Singapore nor did I care so it was very boring but I will admit that the last half of the book FINALLY pulled me in. I couldn't put it down. I didn't care for the authors writing because she used so many words & phrases that either I didn't understand or they just didn't exist. Very confusing & there were many spelling errors especially near the end. The biggest thing that I can't get over is the fact that Nara feels bonded with a stranger that tried to have her killed. Makes no sense to me. Also I am left with some unanswered questions in this book like who sent the letter to Nara stating that she may have won the battle but wouldn't win the war & what did it mean? Also what is the thing that Nara's father would be able to recognize if Adam was his true son or not? I do not recommend this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars first they were rivals..then they were lovers.., January 26, 2011
This review is from: Traitor's Kiss (Paperback)
description from back:

FIRST THEY WERE RIVALS...

If only she had been born a boy instead of a girl! Nara Winfield would then be next in line to inherit Winfield Hall, instead of the distant cousin who was about to arrive & banish her from her ancestral home. Meanwhile, Nara escaped the turmoil by sailing in the bay, though the weather was ominous. When her boat capsized & the strong current swept her far from shore, Nara panicked...until strong arms surrounded her & carried her to a small island. soon the chilled beauty felt warm hands gliding over her body in a glorious trail of fire, kindling every inch of her to eager flame. Then her rescuer was kissing her, pressing his heated body against hers in a frenzy of desire. Nara thrilled to his embrace, hoping his caresses would last forever...whoever he might be!

THEN THEY WERE LOVERS...

He hadn't intended to kiss her-not Nara Winfield, of all women in the world, his one rival for the ownership of Winfield Hall. Masquerading as a common sailor, Rolfe Daniels had stalked the Devon coast, waiting to make his move, until he spied the golden-haired heiress's sailboat adrift in a sudden storm. Honorbound to rescue the foolish girl, he sought only to warm her shivering body...until he touched her satiny flesh & felt a jolt of passion. One kiss, & Rolfe was swept away on a rising tide of ecstasy as he stroked her flowing blond hair, & brought her to shuddering rapture in love's sweet embrace...over & over again!
