The Browning BR311 NMO trunk mount was just as advertised, and a great value for the price.

I purchased it together with a Browning BR-180 dual band VHF/UHF antenna in order to install a dual-band (VHF/UHF) Yaesu FT-8800R transceiver in my car without drilling any holes.

The mount was extremely to install (slip over lip of trunk & tighten two allen screws) and together with the BR-180 antenna had my mobile on the air in less than 10 minutes.

I definitely would recommend this mount for anyone needing to install a mobile unit or scanner in a car without drilling any holes. The best part was that the whole setup cost me less than $50 ($20.01 for the mount, $25.11 for the antenna).

I purchased the Browning Br-150 Vhf Land Mobile Antenna (Two-Way Radios/Scanners / Cb Radio Accessories) and the BROWNING BR311 NMO Trunk Mount hoping for a reasonably priced antenna and mount for my 2001 Ford Taurus and new Yaesu FT-2900R. When I received the mount I was surprised by the quality. This is not a cheap CB type mount that you would buy at Radio Shack. This mount is made of stainless steel, fits perfectly and comes with 17 feet of RG58A/U coax (foil and braid shielded with stranded center conductor - LMR 195 quality). Although it is not made in the USA, it is NOT made in "RED CHINA" or by one of our other enemies. The least expensive antenna and mount for 2-Meter I could find at Amateur Radio Sites was around $150.00 and this Browning stuff is quality. Thanks Amazon for carrying some reasonably priced Amateur Radio products, please try to carry more.

I used this with the BROWNING BR-180 Amateur Dual-Band Mobile Antenna because I've found that all mag-mounts damage your car's finish over time. If you intend to use something really long or heavy with this mount, consider that you may bend the metal around your trunk edge. For example, any kind of "Hamstick" antenna should be used on a hole-mount with a large washer inside of the trunk for reinforcement. A 9-foot whip will also damage your trunk around the mount just because it has to support all of that length under stress.

The coaxial cable is high-quality, though the PL-259 connector is molded. The threads won't strip on the outside ring, like on cheaper cable assemblies.

The mount is brass, and brass is soft. Use a little care when screwing your antenna on so as to avoid cross-threading. There's no plating on the brass, so use a "Rain Cap" for NMO Antenna Mounts on the mount when the antenna isn't attached - like when you wash your vehicle. You don't want to leave brass exposed to the elements if you expect it to continue to conduct well. Being non-ferrous, the brass mount does not add inductance that would affect your SWR.

As with any mount of this sort, check the screws periodically to make sure they aren't loosening over time, especially with a longer, centre-loaded whip. You can use Loc-Tite on the set screws if you don't plan on removing it frequently.

I actually mounted this to the side of my hood, not the trunk. Used a small piece of thicker plastic to protect the hood from any scratches from the mount. Has been rock solid so far. I would recommend a second tightening of the screws after the first week of use.

Great mount for my car's truck. Well constructed and did not mar the finish on the truck. Very solid base that makes you forget it's there. Good buy.

I got this unit and the larger magnetic mount for a Browning antenna. They are both surprisingly well built mounts. Much sturdier than others you see on the market and the NMO to remove the antenna is a big plus also - darn car washes and garages will get ya all the time - not now with these units.

Attached this to my trunk in less than 5 minutes. It just slips around the edge of a panel, a couple screws on the back tighten down onto it. It has a rubber-ish protective backing, so the metal isn't right on the paint; haven't removed it but I don't expect much scratching when I do. Attached the Browning BR-180 antenna. With this combination connected to my Yaesu FT-8900; TX @ 50W reaching about 75miles on 2m. In & Out of repeaters in Auburn, CA all the way to Fairfield, CA 5x5.
