I have bought a load of books on Amazon, and one of the things i look for when im buying a book is it's user comments.

In this case i think all of them where rating the book for 5 stars and raved about the book, so i bought it since i was interested in the subject.

Now, i have read a few others in the field so i have a few to compare with...

The big problem i have with the book is the constant use of:
"I know the truth"
"what has surfaced as an undeniable truth"
And especially when referencing other authors (must be well over a 100 of references):
"As the author has proven" or
"The truth has been found by this author"

For any person who has not learnt to question information given to him, this book may seem like a bible in this subject.
Everywhere you look, page after page, "the truth" is presented, in areas which are so far out they are even hard to discuss properly.

I read a lot of books with ideas and theories that are just out of this world, and i'm fine with it.
Because most of those authors present those ideas and theories as such and not as facts or truths.

If you are interested in the subjects of this book there are a lot of gems that might stir your interests however.
But keep your "question the information" hat on, or you're in for a ride...

And i'm still puzzled how the book could have so many reviews with 5 stars...

5.0 out of 5 stars Unlocking Your Mind From Your Biology of Belief, February 21, 2007
This review is from: Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century (Paperback)
Upon preparing to write this review -- yet considering to do otherwise given that nobody reads them -- I was stunned that other reviewers did not see what is so obvious to me, but then again, I am a computer scientist and mathematician. That is, it is a book that unlocks your mind from your biology of belief. I mean the words are carefully selected to shift one's consciousness. This masterpiece is pure unadulterated genius. Literally every chapter, every page, let alone paragraph, follows the latest scientific insight into perception and language structure on how to change a rigid mind-set akin to The Bible Code's use of "skip-pattern sequencing." Specifically, it is a magnum opus on subliminal learning techniques that open one's subconscious mind, then plants a powerful message of transformation that leads the reader to an expanded cosmic and worldview effortlessly. To the point, I've read nearly all the cutting-edge books on consciousness, physics, and metaphysics, and have seen the movies such as "What the Bleep Do We know?!" as well as "The Secret" and all I know from the miracles that are manifesting in my life now from reading, and rereading, this book is that if it has any shortcomings I'd look within myself first for them. Clearly, to lash out at this author for using too many references, too many website links, too many words is like sinking survivors of the Titanic complaining to the Captain that the lifeboats were blocking the view of the icebergs! Indeed this text seeks to saturate the reader with life-saving INFORMATION. If it invokes hidden agendas, feelings, thoughts in the reader in that process so much the better as that can then be used to your advantage via self-reflection. Something like a Rorschach Inkblot Test this astute scholar was able to create a dynamic pattern of words that flies beneath our conscious radar screens as we scan the text for truth. Nonetheless, I am not rich or famous yet, but I would not rule that out since I incorporated these insights into my own lifestyle today. In particular, I see the need to be a positive person, to be the peace I want to see in the world. Thus, I'd suggest you read this book at least twice before you judge its value; as sometimes you do have to sift the words more than once to filter out the fools gold that our sound-bite society hands out like candy kisses. But, by all measures I use to establish value, this book is a treasure chest of wisdom!

First, there is nothing categorically wrong with this book or the information presented but...

This man has read the same books you've all read. Heard the same programs that we've all heard. This is book is 'derivative.' The only difference is that Mr. Harper has taken the time to consolidate it all into one source and add HIS own opinion about 2012.

His opinion is not wrong nor is it right. Who the heck knows
But, they are his opinions.

I know nothing about his experiences but his credentials lend nothing to his authority. He offers nothing from deep and dedicated scholarship (the academic sort) but rather anecdotes and assumptions he has arrived at himself from the information freely floating about.

Read his book if you want to hear another opinion but try doing something else. Find your own opinion.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing, February 26, 2006
I had great hopes for this book, because I am studying Shamanism and trying to adapt it to modern life. This book isn't about Shamanism. It is about text-bites (53 attributed quotes in the Introduction alone) and a bunch of rambling new-age ideas that boil down to: 1- We're destroying the planet; 2- Our negative thinking is destroying us; 3- Prehistoric cultures were much smarter than we are now; and a miscellany of unproven new-age assertions, such as Florida is a Hurricane magnet because of the negative thinking and karma of all the military bases down there; Our DNA serves as a "communication interface porthole to every species in our universe, serving as a radio-TV-computer-like chip implant.";and Angelic beings from Orion are our overseers. If you are looking for a vast compilation of short quotes from other authors, this is your book. Otherwise, keep looking. There are many better, more focused books that cover the ideas with greater depth and clarity.

5.0 out of 5 stars From Trance to Transcendence, November 23, 2002
By
John Harper's experience of a nocturnal visit by his recently deceased best friend plunged him into a ten year exploration of NDEs, OBEs, Altered States of Consciousness, psychic phenomena, theories of reincarnation, hyperdimensional physics, cosmology, the latest Unified Field theories, Superstrings, Zero Point Energy, the Holographic Universe, Quantum Coherent Consciousness and the relationship of all of this background information to the probability of Extraterrestrial Visitors and the reality of UFO phenomena. The marvelous result is a body of coherent conclusions reached after immersing his mind in the cutting edge theories and research studies by the top scientific thinkers on the planet.
I feel qualified to assess the quality of his research because after a personal OBE in 1973, during which the type of content associated with the prototypical Near Death Experience reshaped all my perspectives, I devoted thirty years to study of the same topics, authors and books listed in Harper's extensive bibliogrphy. My forthcoming book focuses on the geometric foundation of energy patterns and their relation the necessary structure of physical matter and to Cosmic Consciousness, so I fully appreciate Harper's excellent job of synthesizing massive amounts of data and making it compehensible to the general reader.
TRANCEFORMERS predicts a Revolution of Consciousness by all human beings as a consequence of a transformation of the energetic patterns of the Milky Way Galaxy, a transformation as profound as the one that fundamentalist religions refer to as the End Times. Dr. Harper is not a doomsayer in spite of his expectation of dramatic Earth Changes. Anyone striving to get prepared for the upheavals rushing toward us in the next decade will be a giant step ahead of his peers after reading how the Shamans of the 21st Century will lead humanity across uncharted territory.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get ready for that great leap into infinity, because we are just about there!, January 21, 2007
This review is from: Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century (Paperback)
There were many reasons that I was attracted to this book Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century by John Jay Harper: 1) The subject of shamanism, which I'm presently studying; 2) His interpretation of the anticipated shift in consciousness as we approach the Mayan End-Date Calendar on December 21st, 2012; and 3) Even the title itself--so ripe with implications. For as Harper suggests, those who are capable of keeping one foot in this dimension while inserting the other foot into the "fifth dimension" that is light itself, are the "reality transformers" of climate, culture, and civilization. He concludes that transforming the world we live in is an intentional process. More so, the Shamans of the 21st Century--those willing to step into the transformer role--will create that future reality for the rest of us.

Indeed one of the most important ideas for rumination is John Jay Harper's transformational concept that the new world creation is a choice we make whether we understand the indigenous cosmologies, mythologies and native ritualistic practices--or not. All who exist at this time and in this spatial awareness are the transitional players for the pending phase-shift within our global field-of-consciousness. Therefore, what we choose to experience is what the shift will be. The overall point is that a shaman is a reality transformer--and so are you. So for John Jay Harper to use the term "Tranceformers" in his book title is to state his major intention for this book's contents. He is in effect saying, "Step into your natural power. You have the ability to change this world for the better. It is your choice."

Harper's book is a fascinating compilation of numerous scientific studies on the nature of reality. He reviews many popular theories on human capabilities and potential, and also offers the reader a panoply of personal spiritual revelations on alternative states of consciousness. This allows one to share his insight into what exists beyond the limited frame of normal perception we myopically call "reality." All the while he conclusively states: Reality is what you make it!

It is within this fifth-dimensional luminous field of light that "pure potential" awaits direction by the viewer. It is there that our self-created "reality" can be changed: where illness can be eliminated--where soul fragments can be retrieved--where karmic debts can be traced and removed--where the world can be literally transformed in the blink of one's third eye by those willing to face the unknown to make those necessary changes, and then return to tell others how it was done.

How does one embark on and survive such an epic journey into the unknown? Trance work takes you there to our place of origin and destiny. So to understand the trance-state is to comprehend a place of infinite possibility--a dreamland constantly in the creation stage--a mystical world shifting and changing. Yet here is the key: You can go there with specific intentions, such as in a state of trance, connecting into a much deeper part of Our Great Self that is the Source of all dream fodder.

Deep meditation is a form of trance--a vehicle used to reach that level of infinite possibility--as is hypnotism. The difference between them is in depth of trance. Shamans use guided meditations or what they call "soul journeys," to sink deeper and deeper into these multidimensional potential realities--where spirits can interact and uniquely educate us in ways we find hard to imagine. When you study shamanism, you will soon realize that the reality we all presently live is little more than the operational instructions previously programmed into our subconscious mind that our conscious mind believes to be true--and follows to the letter.

If you learn how to reprogram your subconscious patterns to regain your health, or to create new opportunities in your life, or to simply give yourself permission to believe something other than what you've always believed to be true, you will soon experience a different reality. And all you will have done to create that new reality for yourself is to go into the "pure potential" program of your Unlimited Self, and change it to reflect the reality you choose.

That's all you do in a hypnotic trance: release the old beliefs and behavioral patterns and reprogram your new life behaviors, feelings, ideas to match what you want your experience to be today. Reality is little more than defined trance-work. Shamans have mastered these techniques to restore the health of themselves and tribal people for thousands of years. They have transformed the reality they witnessed into the world they desired to experience through reprogramming the "pure potential" energies co-existing within the living luminous zero-point field of consciousness.

In summary, John Jay Harper is telling us that if we are willing to step into our power, WE will be the "Shamans of the 21st Century." We can be the "Tranceformers of this reality."

5.0 out of 5 stars ***** Dr. Harper Has Mastered the Secrets of Shamans *****, May 26, 2006
By
Gene Hampton (Chicago, IL USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century (Paperback)
What many indigenous healers know is that when we perform our rituals we are opening a line of communication between the Mind of DNA and nature--or the serpent power within all living things--through specific vibrations or frequences such as radio/tv employ today. This is why we shamans claim that everything is connected, all are our brothers and sisters, because we can see in trance that human DNA is an Internet-like being, a true Book of Life. It speaks to us. Dr. Harper's latest scientific findings explains how such phenomena as clairvoyance, spontaneous and remote acts of self-healing, affirmation techniques, hypnosis, unusual light/auras, telepathy, and the focused-mind's influence on weather patterns works, too. In addition, he reveals that DNA can be reprogrammed by "words of power" alone. Accordingly, our DNA follows a regular grammar pattern like our own spoken languages.
So we speak DNA every day now, but do we speak lovingly--or not! More so, when the truly deeper-levels of communication occurs, one can observe supernatural events. To cite an example from Harper's book, biochemist Colm Kelleher, Ph.D. of the National Institute for Discovery Science, writes in his DNA article, Retrotransposons as Engines of Human Bodily Transformation: "There are unusual physical, as well as psychological consequences in humans to the attainment of the exalted state of mind known as enlightenment, nirvana, or samadhi. These reported changes include, but are not limited to, sudden reversal of aging, emergence of a light-body and observed bodily ascension into the sky." Read this book to recapture this ancient native wisdom and healing power for yourself and then go in peace to bless the whole world!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wanted to love it - he needs an editor, December 27, 2008
This review is from: Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century (Paperback)
I purchased this book because I enjoy JJ Harper's interviews on Coast2Coast and the internet. I wanted to learn more about shamanism, ETs and indigenous wisdom as he's very informed on the subjects during his interviews. He is also genuinely concerned about where our civilization and planet is headed if we don't change our consciousness and actions.

That being said, I couldn't get through the preface. It's a poorly written book and lacks basic grammar and punctuation editing. I'm perplexed by the many intelligent and well-written reviews of this book and only a few mention the lack of editing and poor content organization. I'm also disappointed that a publisher would print this book as it's currently written.

Like some of the other reviewers recommended, please try other authors such as Terence McKenna and James Gilliland. If you want just shamanism, stick with Harner, Wesselman and Cowan.

5.0 out of 5 stars solving the mystery of consciousness, February 24, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Tranceformers: Shamans of the 21st Century (Paperback)
The crux of this book is that trance -- the method employed by shamans, mediums, and other mystics -- is the doorway to the fifth dimensional field of cosmic consciousness. The author suggests that trance is the "Rosetta stone" that unlocks the mysteries of existence.

Dr. Harper calls upon a wide variety of authors, including Alice Bailey,Jacob Boehme, Richard Bucke, Carlos Castaneda, Deepak Chopra, Larry Dossey, Albert Einstein, Stan Grof, Graham Hancock, Aldous Huxley, Carl Jung, Charles Lindbergh, John Mack, Raymond Moody, Melvin Morse, Oliver Lodge, Kenneth Ring, Gary Schwartz, Ian Stevenson, Ken Wilber, and scores of others
in piecing together the very complex puzzle of consciousness and the meaning of life. He adds in his own mysical experiences and observations. The picture that emerges will be an abstract one for most people, but there are many smaller images within the full picture that are easily discerned.

In concluding that the universe is a hologram -- one whole message -- Harper sees our DNA molecule as the simplest form of a hologram. "Our DNA molecule serves as the monitor and the system clock of the cosmos tuned to the geomagnetic cycles of Gaia, our Sun, and Milky Way Galaxy," he explains. "This is what the shaman does in trance: taps into DNA transmissions."

Harper draws from quantum physics, anthropology, biology, the Bible, mythology, abnormal psychology, near-death experiences, astronomy, astrology, crop circle studies, alien abductions, Egyptology, Mayan Cosmology, seemingly every conceivable source that that lends itself to the mystery of consciousness and the meaning of life. It's an intriguing and fascinating read.
