I was worried purchasing this item when it only had one review, but now that the item has arrived and I've had a chance to try it out I'm extrememly happy I did.

I had read reviews about similar items being poorly manufactured and falling apart, glue residue slopped on the product, and being too small to fit larger screened laptops. This product however seems to be much more durable, cleanly designed and large enough to fit even my 17" laptop and mouse (and I *can* sit cross legged and have the lapdesk still fit comfortably)! I'm glad I spent just a few dollars more for this paticular brand.

On Black Friday I bought one of these for $39.99 at Ulta. Then I came home, and found this one for $29.99 on Amazon. It arrived just four days after I ordered it via free shipping (even though it says it's "temporarily out of stock" and wouldn't arrive until after Xmas).

It's a bit smaller than the Ulta one, but that's fine by me; the Ulta one is almost too big. They are exactly the same in looks and how they're made, but the Amazon one is about 3 inches smaller in length and two inches smaller in width, and it doesn't sit as high on you lap as the Ulta one which was more comfortable to me. So, the Ulta one is going back tonight.

I'd been pricing out a variety of lap desks for awhile now (I almost bought the one from the Hampton Inn site for about the same cost, but that's just a nice finished piece of wood with a handle and elastic across the corners, with no light.) I'm glad I found this.

The light is bright enough, but not too bright to blind anyone around you.

I only wish the white cushioning on the bottom had a removable cover to help keep it clean, so I guess I'll make some kind of cover with an elastic edge.

Now that most of us spend most of our "desk time" at a computer, work which requires a flat surface (including the crossword puzzle) ends up being done elsewhere.
If the space on your kitchen table is limited, or if you'd just rather sit on the couch with your feet up, you need this lapdesk. Since it has its own light, you're not limited to your reading chair.
With a brighter light, this lapdesk would earn a perfect five-star rating.

When I ordered this product, I relied heavily on the reviews that had already been written. I am very glad that I followed those reviews. This product is wonderful. I am on bed rest and this lapdesk is making my bed rest so much easier to handle. I am able to sit with my legs straight or even crossed at the ankles on my bed, without any issues. It is still very stable and comfortable to use. It weighes a little more than I was expecting, however, the weight helps with the stability. I am able to sit with the desk on my lap with my laptop on top and make minor shifts in my position without worrying that everything is going to topple. I have not used the light much, however, it is very useful. The bulb is bright enough to allow me to work at night without disturbing everyone else in the room. I have not blown through the batteries yet, but I think I will invest in some rechargables before too long. Overall, I really like this product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a lapdesk for a variety of purposes.

My daughter received this item, and was very happy with it until we tried to turn on the light. The light did not work. Since the item was a gift we did not have the receipt. After replacing the light bulb (which was broken) the light still did not work. After taking the desk apart, and playing with the electronics (wrench, exacto knife, ohm-meter) I determined that one lead was soldered to the wooden board (about 1/4th of an inch from the switch contact).

I concluded that the desk could not have ever worked (since wood does not conduct electricity). So only buy this product if you want a desk from a company that doesn't check to see if the product works.

Don't buy this item unless you own stock in a Battery Manufacturer because it eats batteries and expensive ones at that. The light output, even with fresh batteries is sub-standard. Particularly in light of the fact that you are using 4 C Batteries. In the two weeks subsequent to receipt of this item, I've put 16 new Akaline (Copper Top) batteries in the device after using it only 2 hrs every third day. This company (SPI) also sells another model that uses 4 AA bateries and has a LED light that is bright and soothing on the eyes. I also purchased this model and It's been over a month since purchase with only one set of batteries. Go figure.

Buyer beware!

This is a very good product and my wife is very pleased with it - as long as she doesn't use the light too much. It seems to be very battery hungry.

You'd expect a brighter light given that it needs 4 C cell batteries. I hate how its a single tiny bulb and the way that the light is dispersed is very uneven. The padding is too stiff to be comfortable. Since I already bought it, I will continue to use it, but if I had a choice I'd keep shopping around.

Not as usfull as I thought it would be. Light is not very bright and with a 17 in wide monitor the goose neck becomes a problem. Also not very comfortable when on lap.

I highly recommend this product! The price is right and the quality is superb! I shopped a long time before I found this perfect lapdesk at such a good buy! I use this comfy lapdesk a lot for working with my laptop and writing. It has great ergonomic comfort and has saved me the neckaches and backaches I used to have leaning over tables and stationary desks. The light is really bright and easy to adjust to the perfect angle for any work. When not in use, the light easily folds out of your way. I love this product! Thanks!!!
