This review is from: Trans-Canada Rail Guide, 4th: includes city guides to Halifax, Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Calgary and Vanvouver (Paperback)
I bought this book specifically in advance of a vacation planned on Canada VIA Rail on a well-known route from Montreal to the Gaspe peninsula. It is omitted from this book. Not even a mention. "Trans-Canada" this book is not.
My second beef is that there is a distinct political undertone (pro-French, anti-Anglo) in the Montreal guide section. If this were something that a traveller should be forewarned of that's fine. But talking about the 1970's unrest, kidnapping-murder by pro-Fracophile terrorists is unwarranted. Tell me about the city and the trains please. Suggest a French language phrase book. Th only reason I gave it even 2 stars (because I cannot comment any other information included other than what I was searching in) is that it does give good suggestions for Montreal accommodations that are not run-of-the-mill. Was that worth the money? Probably not. |
