Product Description

Developed by renowned restorer and finisher Jeff Jewitt, the TransTint line of dyes is more versatile than any weâ€TMve ever seen! TransTint dyes, like this honey amber, can be mixed with water for an economical, nonflammable stain or with alcohol for a fast drying, non-grain raising stain. For use as a toner or “shader,” dyes can be added directly to water-based finishes and solvents to create a perfect match for touch-ups or a unique, customized finish. A 2 oz. bottle yields about 2 quarts of dye-stain. Can even be added to: shellac, catalyzed lacquer and varnish, water-based lacquer and polyurethane finishes. Not for exterior use.

First experience with dyes other than the cheap stuff that comes in paste from at Home Depot. Water works better that Denatured alcohol as water has longer working time. I would recommend wiping with water first to raise grain and final sanding after your work dries prior to applying water diluted dye. This product colors the wood but does not hide the grain.

This amber dye did exactly what I wanted it to do by darkening up my maple guitar neck to a nice warm tint.

I used this dye as part of a finishing process to mimic Arts and Crafts style finishes. The final product looked great. Mix up just what you need as once diluted in water it won't stay in solution very long. The bottle isn't easy to reseal so be sure to store upright.
