Boasting impressive transfer rates and excellent reliability, the SSD320 allows computer enthusiasts and gamers to take their system to the next level.
The SSD320 is ideal for users who use their computer primarily for everyday applications like internet browsing, basic computing, playing music or watching films. To fulfill the diverse needs to different users, the SSD320 is compatible with Windows, Mac and Linux based systems. The 256 GB* SSD320 acts as the perfect system partition (for installing your operating system).
SSD technology offers other advantages over traditional spinning hard drives. Since there are no moving parts in the SSD320, it is highly shock and vibration resistant. Consequently, less power is consumed versus a traditional hard drive increasing the energy efficiency of your devices when used in concert with a SATA III SSD.
*1 GB = 1,000,000,000 bytes. Displayed in the OS as 0.93 GB becauase 1,000,000,000 Bytes/1024/1024/1024= 0.93 GB. Some capacity (1-3%) is inter alia reserved for firmware and is not available for use as available space.
Rapid Data Transmission
Coupled with the powerful SandForce controller, Transcend’s SSD320 offers impressive transfer rates of up to 550 MB/s sequential read and up to 530 MB/s write speeds and up to 86,000 IOPS 4K random write speeds. Even large amounts of data can now be transferred in a matter of seconds.
Improved Boot-Up and System Response Time
Transcend’s SSD320 optimizes your PC to reach top speeds and reduces system response time. Reboot your PC in just 32 seconds, reducing wait times by 60%. In comparison, to boot Windows 7 from a conventional hard drives takes about 82 seconds. When using the SSD320, files and programs, even memory-intensive applications like graphics programs, open in merely a few seconds.
Superior to Any Hard Drive
Transcend’s SSD320 is significantly faster than any hard drive. With an enormous speed advantage, a 4.7 GB DVD file can be transferred in only 20 seconds. The SSD 320 is twice as fast as a SATA II SSD and nearly three times as fast as a traditional hard drive. Increase your productivity with the SSD320 and enjoy more free time.
To meet the size requirements of new generation Ultrabooks, the SSD320 is 7 mm thick, compared to 9.5 mm thickness of other SSDs. Using an industry-standard 2.5” form factor and super-slim body, the SSD320 can be easily installed into any device.
High-Performance SandForce Controller
Based on a powerful SandForce controller and asynchronous MLC flash chips, Transcend’s SSD320 offers both impressive transfer rates and reliability.

I bought this SSD as a last ditch effort to keep my old gaming PC going (SATAII not SATAIII) so I can't vouch for performance benchmarks but my overall impression is that SSD is quite the upgrade over HDD. For me most noticeable difference is SC2 load times dropped. (The one game where you have a dedicated screen to tell you how fast other users load)
Three things to note:
1. The holes in the bracket are about 1.68 and 2.38 inches apart. I have an Antec P182 case and it wouldn't install into the removable HD bay because of case design. It fits fine in my other case so you might want to double check yours.
2. It took me a while to realize SSD scope is on the Transcend website (URL is on the side of the box). Use SSD scope as an easy way to check you have TRIM enabled on windows, this is important for SSD drives.
3. System clone is included in SSD scope software. But if you have some time just re-install windows on this baby, way faster than HDD and you will enjoy fresh install of windows even more.
That all said... This. Drive. Is. Awesome. I actually wasn't expecting much of a difference when I decided to switch to SSD. However, after a week with this drive I'm hooked and buying two more for my desktop. After installing a fresh copy of Mac OS X Mountain Lion and reinstalling all my apps it runs like a new computer. Boot up is in 22 seconds and apps like Microsoft Office and Starcraft open within seconds. Video and photo editing are a breeze. I have an i7 with 16 GB of ram but with a 7200 HDD and frankly the core2duo MBP with this SSD is a more pleasant experience. I did some research before choosing this model and for the price, you can't find a better drive period. Benchmarks coming soon...
If you're in the market for an SSD this one is a pretty good choice.
Transcend includes the mounting rack so that I can install this 2.5 inch drive into my 3.5 drive bay. Very nice to have because I didn't want to spend another $10 or so for the kit.
My system specs:
Intel Core i5-3570K
16GB DDR3 1600
128GB SSD 320 by Transcend (OS Windows 7 64bit) --> Changed to Transcend 256GB SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5 inch SSD 560/530 MB/s TS256GSSD320
2TB 7200RPM HDD (Just for fun)
4TB NAS Drive (Buffalo Cloudstor Pro for even more fun)
A bit of advice for people, if you are going to use an SSD as your OS hard drive, do some research on cache settings, defragmentation, hibernation, etc just to make sure that you have it setup and fine tuned the way it's supposed to be. Also, install programs to the SSD, but try to keep your read/writes (like movies, music, photos) to a separate, larger capacity, spinning hard drive.
Now that I am an official convert to SSD I am considering putting the Transcend 256GB SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5 inch SSD 560/530 MB/s TS256GSSD320into my Mom's Macbook Pro 2009 model and another Transcend 128GB SATA III 6Gb/s 2.5 inch SSD 560/530 MB/s TS128GSSD320in my Dad's netbook.Read more ›
My drive arrived with v5.0.2 firmware (old firmware, current is 5.0.4). I read reviews about needing to update the firmware to get better performance so I carefully followed the Transcend support instructions and every time I tried to download the firmware... my PC froze. After several tries and several attempts at adjusting other settings and a few hours of reading forums on competitor websites, I found out you have to have ACHI enabled/set in the mobo BIOS. Through more internet research, I found out my mobo chipset does not support ACHI.
Pretty much all SSD vendors use the same sandforce firmware and all need ACHI enabled/set in the bios. So no fault on Transcend for this, BUT it would have saved me HOURS had this been noted any where in the their directions or website.
Also ... had my drive come with the most recent firmware, I would not have tried to load newer firmware. Reading through some amazon reviews, many users have struggled to load firmware on this drive.
The drive installed easily. It does come with a holder/adapter. So I just removed my old SATA HDD, slid this one in and I did do a clean install of Win7. All that was no problem. The hours of extra work was failing to update the firmware and spending hours reading the support pages of competitor SSD.
The speed increase of my PC with a clean Win7 install and this SSD is very impressive. I can reboot my PC in seconds now compared to minutes before (combination of SSD and clean Windows install). I love the speed boost of SSDs.Read more ›
