Card failed several times on an important outing - I have zero confidence in this device now

Despite the mixed reviews, I bought the super-economical Transcend 400X - 64 GB Compact Flash Memory Card for use in a new Canon 5D Mark II on a Feb. 2011 trip to Yosemite.
After an hour of use and a strong battery, the message "format card for use in this camera" appeared. After removing and reinstalling, the message finally went away and my photos seemed to be intact (when!). Later on, while trying to record a video of a herd of Pronghorn, the card failed again several times, again on a new battery. I was later able to read my images off the card into my computer, but I have zero confidence in this device now. I returned it for refund. I'll stick with the more expensive SanDisk or equivalent cards in the future... no such thing as a free lunch.

As of Thanksgiving 2010, the Nikon D700 has Issues with the Transcend 400X 64GB card. I am not sure if Transcend or Nikon is to blame, but the card has serious issues when trying to review images shot, as well as start up and shut down. So far I have had NO problems with losing images, or the write speed or buffer of the card, but unfortunately the card is VERY SLOW on review of images shot, or at least the initial acces into the review system.. It can take several seconds from pressing the play button on my D700 for the first image to appear. To some users this drawback may be worth it, considering the card is such a good value, but I wish I had gotten a smaller card that had official Nikon support, and fast playback access like my previous card.

Have had good luck with other Transcend products in the past and gave this huge card a try. I shoot with a Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) and need something that could hold LOTS of RAW photos and was reasonably fast. This card does not have as fast of a write speed as Lexar Professional Series 16 GB 300x UDMA CompactFlash Memory Card CF16GB-300-381 which I also have but can't complain at this price point. So far it's performed very well, no issues. When shooting action when speed counts, take a smaller, faster card, but if you want to fit an entire vacation's photos on one card, this is the one. My 5D Mark II says this card will hold 2,400 +/- RAW photos. YEA!!!

Doesn't work with D300 Nikon
Formatted the Transcend 64 GB card 10+ times, and always came back on the display that the card was full.
Will return it and get a better brand.

Card Failed
I always use Sandisk Extreme cards but I got this Transcend 64GB card as the price was much lower. Big mistake! Before the card was even full it failed to read or write. Read more

I would suggest however that you format the card before every gig, this will probably help improve data write speeds slightly. Read more
