Carole Pope has finally released a full length solo CD since her departure from Rough Trade in 1986. Since then she has released numerous singles and EPs, but only now is she finally releasing a full length solo CD, 9 tracks in all. The first single off the album, is the rocking title track "Transcend" and it is packed with the sexual tension and venemous attitude that only Ms. Pope can purvey. Also on this CD is an updated reworking of the Rough Trade classic "All Touch No Contact"; the song takes on a whole new raw and menacing sense of danger here. The project overall is on the acoustic and modern rock side and many of the songs showcase a tender and personal side of Ms. Pope that was not so prevalent in the work with her former band. Other higlights include the hauntingly sensuous Dream6, the oh so naughty Edible Flower and the foreboding Seduction. True musicianship prevails throughout the project; behind Carole's trademark searing vocals, you will hear some bone chilling guitar work by Tim Welch. It is so refreshing and rare to hear music that is not overpolished (in this era of cheesy, stunt pulling, self-exploitive and desperate pop stars). And for the club kid in you, Carole has also released a CD single containing over 100 minutes (half the tracks are in MP3 format) of mind bending underground & electro remixes of various selections from the album. Carole Pope has not only survived time, she has truly Transcended it.
